AFV CLUB M1126 STRYKER ICV FINISHED
Posted by waynec on Sunday, June 17, 2012 9:37 PM
another 8x8 done. will be starting on some planes for GBs. some things were better than the trumpeter LAV-III. not as much fiddly pe but the trumpeter pe couild be used for LAV vs STRYKER without creating more plastic parts. nice .540 HMG. wheel attachments were rough. next time i will make sure ALL surfaces being used to attach hubs to suspension are kept paint free. suspension was less complicated than trumpeter which is fine since no one sees it anyway. oainted with airbrush tamiya nato green over gray primer. weathered with powders.

As well as a fine build and weathering paint, nice photography too! Camera

SprueOne wbill76 thanks. it's my generic base and first shot at casting rocks. i will be making a bigger one so i can play with 1/35 "eye level" shots. i just think they look nicer on a base. i have learned the best way to do powder weathering is outside in natural light. i also learned it doesn't have to be done in one coat. in the past i have overdone it. i did washes on my LAV-III and COUGAR but they were painted UN white. i think i am ready to pull an old tamiya JGPZ-IV shelf queen and try a 3 color camo. or do one on my 1/35 LCVP.

That's a nice one Wayne. Don't see many Strykers.

hi tigerman thank you. i have two more in the stash, afv club M-1128 MGS and trumpeter M-1129 mortar carrier. they are down the queue as i have a number of planes to start and finish for group builds.

Hi Wayne,

I found this while looking up some pics for reference.Really great job,the weathering loks great.I know it's 10 months ago,but I am building one now.It looks like you didn't use the cable that goes around the winch,at least i can't see it.In fact I can't seem to find it on a lot of shots i have been looking at.My question is whether it's not necessaary to build it with the cable deployed ? or does it get wound up when not in use ?

Thanks,Anthony C

hi anthony thank you. i don't remember a cable. i would suspect its stowed until use to keep as much sand and dirt off as possible. probably would have made a new cable anyway. i found fake flower stems work well. i add the ends, paint them metallic gray and wipe them down to settle the fuzz then weather with powder in streaks. they bend and hold their shape nicely. tried wrapping speaker wire around one to get the effect but wasn't worth the effort. there are posts of my CENTAURO, LAV-III, and SHO'T KAL with the flower stem cables.
