Working on a M109 A2 for an old redleg
Posted by PANZERJAGER on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 11:52 AM

A friend of mine US Army Ret. was assigned to the M109 A2 155 Howitzers while he was in. And to commemorate his time in service, he asked me to build him a dio with one during a fire mission.

I am starting with the old Italeri kit, but am having trouble tracking down the old Warriors kits for the turret and the fighting compartment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Not to rain on your parade, but for the price of adding aftermarket resin interior to the outdated Italeri kit, you could purchase the new kit by Kinetic http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=KI-K61006

There's a better one by AFV Club coming. There were posts of the sprue shots and a WIP on facebook, but I couldn't find it.

Thanks Rob.

But the Kinetic kit doesn't come with an interior either.

Is the AFV coming out with an interior?

Model manufacterers think that SP Artillery pieces are tanks, hence the lack of interior details..  I'd like to put a "Battery One" on some of 'em just for that reason..

Even subsequent releases of kits like the Bradley and M113 FOV often fail to include interiors, and these vehicles are designed to carry infantrymen and drop ramps, leaving the interior open for all to see.

I do not know about the AFV Club kit, whether it has an interior or not. I can't even tell you when it coming out. I do know that the Kinetic kit is most likely light years ahead of that 1980s era M109; the hull is designed as the M108/M109 hull with flotation cover, not a later M109A1/2/3/4/5/6 hull.

It was a mediocre kit in the 1980s when it was brand new; not one of Italeri's better offerings (compared to their M47, M4A1, Leopard 1, Jeep of the same timeframe).
