Smile Hey Ben, no worries mate! Smile

Kind of set me thinking though the actual accuracy of the detail.

I have the Dragon Firefly in the stash to build up, if yours is the same make Id be well chuffed if you could give me some pointers as to how your doing with it?

Star Wars Steve

Thanks for the comments guys!!

HInksy sorry mate I totally forgot the intro for the kit..will edit the original post.

And as you say mate, I guess it wouldn't flake that bad if it was in active service, guess it would get re-painted before anything that bad took hold...but it looks good for me Smile

Hey Steve,

You misunderstand my meaning dude! What I meant was I'm more of a German WWII armour modeller and at present only build the occasional Allied piece (that is changing-at present I'm building a Sherman Firefly) and merely meant I wouldn't know how these would change under those heat conditions basically as I think the paint is applied differently and I'd have to ask.

But thats something else - what you have done is excellent and very impressive. It certainly wasn't my intent to 'pick you up' on any errors matey Yes

Good models so far, I'll look forward to seeing more of your work.

All the best,

Ben Toast

As for the exhaust / flaky paint look..I saw it on a kit on the internet and thought I would give it a try myself as the area needed a little something and was quite pleased how it turned out. Nice work on the bulldog!  Built one when I was a kid.  Very nice job with the peeling paint on the muffler guards! Yes

Looks like a really nice little build you have there Steve - lovely weathering Yes

I don't know if this paint would have actually behaved like that but making it appear that the hot mufflers have made the green basecoat lift is a great effect - great stuff.

Perhaps you could drop a few words in explaining the paint type(s) used, name any aftermarket kit used & weathering methods used etc.?

A few little words introducing a series of photos of a new model are always welcome. I can see that you have mentioned scale and manufacturer in the subject though Yes

Many thanks matey and may the force be with you Wink

Here we have a 1/35 Walker Bulldog from Tamiya. This one was built straight from the box with no after market additions. I did make the antenna's from heat stretched sprue lengths. I would have quite liked some photo etch grilles for the engines but there you go. Right, the base coat was brushed on using Humbrol oil based matt, then polished with a piece of dry medical gauze to give a semi gloss sheen. The glass was then filled in with a Tamiya acrylic that I had handy at the time.

Next came the decals, they actually went on really well, no problems with them. Then time for some light weathering using a two different Humbrol oil colours, the darker first, then the lighter afterwards and a small amount of smudge work with a piece paper towel dipped in thinners. The exhaust covers were base coated with Humbrol bronze and then a thin wash of black over the top to just tone it down. The green was then added on top in a patchy pattern and then another wash was added to the edges of the green, just to shade the edges of the flaky look. After that came a few very thin washes of matt black to pick up lower detail and a dry brush of silver to edges and raised areas. Last, a few black streaks were added using the dragging technique and to finish off, some oil pastel shades where scraped and dusted over the top.

The Tracks were matt blacked and dry brushed with some silver and a small wash of oil pastel thinners was sprayed over the top from a small atomiser spray.
