Airfix Mark I tank (1/76) replacement tracks
Posted by Austria3 on Friday, July 6, 2012 2:10 PM

Hi,

I am currently building an Airfix Mark I.

Has anybody come across replacement tracks for this tank?

I would like to replace the "rubber-band" tracks that are included in the kit with

something better resembling the real thing.

So far I was not able to locate an upgrade.

Greetings from Austria!

Those stiff silver vinyl tracks are the biggest weak point on the kit. Matador Models makes some resin replacement tracks for it, but I have not used them before. Here is a build article where the tracks are being used (resin ones with grousers) so you can get an idea of how they look.

Beware that I am not a recognized "go to guy" when it comes to British armor, but I am just trying to help a fellow small scale armor modeler out with some information on where to obtain replacement parts. If an actual British armor "go to guy" happens to reply to this post, by all means disregard my information.

Hi Rob, thanks for your reply to my post !

I actually tried to get hold of the resin replacements from Matador Models in February.

Tried by FAX, tried by letter, but did not get an answer whatsoever.

Maybe they dont like to talk to me because I am from Austria ?

I found the article on Internetmodeler that you suggested very interresting.

Hopefully there is an alternative to the Matador Models track.

Thanks again and happy modelling !

I've read that they are notoriously difficult to get a hold of, regardless of your country of origin. Here is contact information I've found that may be useful in your attempts to contact them.

I assume you already attempted to contact them through their website.

Hi Rob,

thank you so much for the link.

I will try to get through to them and let you know of course if I had more luck this time around.
