Hard to say Ozz...depends on the way Trumpeter designed the sprockets and the idlers in terms of their width relative to the tracks. The location of the guide holes for the sprocket teeth and the width between the track guide horns would be your biggest issue. Of course you could always look at modifying the sprockets and idlers to narrow them to fit the tracks...you might also have to do some careful sanding with the road wheels and return rollers to thin them down as well. Without doing some test fitting and measurements, there's no way to say for sure just how much modifications you might, or might not, have to do to use a set of 38(t) tracks as replacements.

do you think the issues would be significant?

Yep, Trumpeter got the scale width right for 38D tracks...standard 38(t)s are narrower by about 1.5mm, so you would likely have issues with fit to the sprockets if you used regular 38(t) tracks.

The reason I want replacements is that I accidentally glued about half of the tracks I had to the jig they came from. Also, I don't like the little pins that are used to put them together, I prefer more of a "Magic Track" type of thing.

I was considering buying the Tristar track set for the 38(t) family vehicles. Here are the measurements of the tracks. they don't appear to be much different from the 38(t) as far as I know. The drawing is purely schematic.

Ozz,

Don't know of anyone who makes replacement tracks for the Waffentragers right off hand, you might look and see if Fruil offers some (I know MK doesn't). Any particular reason you want to replace the kit-supplied links? I understand they are designed to be workable but that doesn't mean you couldn't make them static if you think that's an issue. The inidividual links on the 38D weren't any longer, only wider, than the standard 38(t) tracks.

Since you've got the existing Trumpeter kit, can you take a measurement of the kit's link width? I can compare that to a set of 38(t) tracks I've got and then tell you whether or not Trumpeter took a short cut or molded the links accurately for 38Ds...if they did take a short cut, you might be in better luck for replacements.

Are the track links any longer?

The Waffentrager used the 38(D) chassis design, a derivative of the 38(t) design, but different. The tracks were wider by 60mm from standard 38(t) tracks, so that would be a noticeable scale difference meaning you can't use standard 38(t) tracks as a swap-out. The Waffentrager hull is definitely longer than a standard Pz 38(t) hull, so the tracks would be longer also. The scale drawings in Spielberger show it with 114 links with only slight sag on the return roller. HTH!

Krupp/Ardelt Waffentrager 105mm leFH-18 tracks

Hello,

A few months ago, I bought Trumpeter's 1/35  Krupp/Ardelt Waffentrager 105mm leFH-18 kit. However, I did not like the tracks on it, and decided to replace them.

The vehicle itself was built on a modified Panzer 38(t) chasis. Would tracks made for that tank work on this kit. I am asking because I heard that the chasis on the Krupp/Ardelt Waffentrager 105mm leFH-18 is longer, and the tracks from the 38(t) would be too short. Is this the case?
