Gator…Catskills, Charlie-On-Time
Posted by deattilio on Friday, July 13, 2012 6:03 PM

Here is Dragon’s 1/72 AAV finished as a water-line build.  It actually started as kit# 7319, the AAVR7A1 but also includes the UGWS in the box.  I also used some PE from ET Model’s set for the AAVP7A1 w/EAAK.  The water is layers of colored Realistic Water and the waves are shaped from Water Effects set into a 5x7 picture frame.  This was the first time I had ever tinkered with a water base.

The title:  Gator is typical call sign for AAVs and on many occasions Catskills has been the call sign of the amphib ship, often preceded with color such as Green Catskills, Blue Catskills etc.  Charlie-on-time refers to position reports from the ship in reference to the AAV’s position in the boat lane while headed to the beach.

Wow, I've never thought of showing an Amtrac in her element as it were. Brilliant!!! IdeaGeeked

My only nitpick is that most of the beaches I've been to the water near the shore is more of a green than you used but still- it's just a nitpick. Beautiful model and diorama! Yes

Nice!  Not often that we see armor in the water in this forum!  You did a bang up job on the AA7 deattilio and the water looks great!

Nicely done.  I would suggest using some gloss to make the upper parts of it look "wet"
