Wages, Overtime, New Tamiya kit, Vallejo Paints, AK Product and RB Barrels:
Posted by Hinksy on Friday, July 27, 2012 6:59 AM

Hi Guys,

I've been really busy this week and haven't managed to post on here but pay day was on the 20th this month (pay date being 21st which fell on a Saturday this month so pay went in a day early).

I've been working as much weekend overtime as possible which all goes towards the August pay day - with Tigermans Steel Cats GB starting in September I'll be needing money to pay for my build. I've decided on Dragons late version Tiger I with Zim (see box-art below). It's supposed to make for a nice build and will look nice when placed next to my Initial Production early Tiger I with the turret sidebins.

Some Friuls and a replacement barrel should make this a tasty build Stick out tongue

So, I popped to the LHS this morning and took a fancy to Tamiya's 2008 re-released Panzer II (French Campaign). There are two types of PE muffler guard and I've just ordered an RB 20mm cannon barrel from Armour Models here in the UK to replace the main plastic part which lacks detail and also a Brass RB MG34 barrel, again to replace the kit barrel. Some Brass Antennae completed the order.

I'll use the kit L&L tracks which look very nice, especially the pre moulded sag for the long top run. The only thing that I can't work out is why they chose to EXCLUDE clear plastic lenses for the headlight and instead provide moulded lights and ask you to paint the lens area in a silver colour? Yuck! I'll be making up some blackout covers or something! Painted headlights look terrible imo!

On my arrival home I was happy to find my delivery from Creative Models who I use to order Vallejo stuff. I've bought some AK 'Perfect Cleaner' for my new airbrush along with some more Vallejo colours for brush painting and some of that new AK chipping stuff that does the job of hairspray. It's not the heavy chipping version but the stuff for lighter chipping. I'll let you know how that performs!

If anyone has any comments re the Tamiya Panzer II kit I'd love to see them! I might start that tomorrow which will leave the Jeep still in assembly mode but the Pz II looks like a great build. I'll be using Dragon PE tool clamps and Dragon Tools which should look muh better!

Cheers guys,

Ben Toast

That Tiger is an extremely nice kit Ben,did it a few years ago.Nice amount of PE included. When I get home I can post a shot or two,the Fruils will enhance it nicely.

I finished the Panzer II kit earlier this year, put it in a small dio.It is a very straight forward Tamiya kit, easy assembly,no fit issues, some PE grills if I remember and a PE muffler cover, not overly detailed especially when compared with the DML Mark II's,but it builds up real nice. The Link and Length Tracks do look good but I have trouble with them,I'd rather have complete indies or DS style, but for some reason the L +L drive me crazy, but thats just me,as they do look good.Again I am at work today for a 16 hour shift, but when I get home I can post somes shots of my Mark II also.

Hey buddy,

I'd love to see a few shots of both the Tiger and the Pz II aswell.

I'd like to have a crack at the later Dragon Pz II also as it shows the late version Pz II, this newer Tamiya release being the early version.

Cheers Anthony,

Ben
