Since the track is off, I would replace them with AFV Club's M108/M109 indi-link track set.  If you must use the Italeri tracks, I use super glue and glue the track to the middle 3 roadwheels.  Be liberal with the glue and wedge a few popsicle stick between the track and teh hull to hold it down overnight to dry.  It turns out pretty decent looking when dry.

At a dollar store i've seen a plastic box of the straight pins with the the little colored plastic blobs on the end . I've used them in the past for forcing the track sag on vinyle tracks . It might take 3 to get the correct curve in the sage . Best to have the tracks on when figuring out the sag and where to drill your holes .

I've been using paper clip wire myself. Cheap and easy to find when I can just swipe them from work!

I decided to go with Gino's suggestion and I do like the outcome.  Thanks to everyone, and especially to Gino!

Looking pretty good.  I forgot to mention before (sorry) that you also need to remove two links from the Italeri tracks.  They are too long and too loose out of the box.  You may have to glue them to the middle 5 roadwheels to get them to lay right as well.

They should just pop off with a little pressure.  If you don't want to give it a try, you could glue them down tighter by gluing them to either the middle 5 roadwheels, or all the roadwheels.  On the actual vehicles, the track floats above the first two and last two roadwheels by only a couple inches and touches the center 3.

The Italeri tracks are hard to work with and to make them look right.  That is why I prefer the AFV Club tracks.  They look great on them.
