Yes, but would best be represented during track replacement or something of the sort. In reality any paint or coating wears off as soon as the track starts moving.

just an idea but say if the tank crew did indeed paint the tracks the camo color it would be neat to paint some tracklinks in said camo color representing replacement.

It also depends on how/where the spare tracks are mounted. In cases where the spare tracks were added as "ad hoc" additional armor, they usually got painted the camo pattern right along with the rest of the vehicle.

This is a huge case of:"it depends". Sometimes you will see them painted in the same camouflage colors as the vehicle, sometimes they are rusted bare metal, and sometimes they are still in the protective coating that is applied at the factory. Using one of those three choices to match your vehicle you will not likely go wrong.

Spare tracks on tanks
Posted by IBuild148 on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 10:34 PM

While working on my Bergepanzerwagen IV a thought came to mind when assembling the spare tracks. Were they always painted the color of the tank or whatever track vehicle?

Or was it a sometimes yes and sometimes no?

I will post progress photo's tomorrow. Its to late to do it now.
