Starting em out young!
Posted by lizardqing on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 11:28 PM
I am proud to report that I got to help my youngest put together his first model tonite, armor related of coarse. The Revell Pro Finish Hummer is what broke him in. It was great seeing his face light up and got excited that he was going to build a tank model as he put it. He had his hands in it all. Of coarse I helped with cutting parts off sprues and showing him where the parts went so he could snap em in. As soon as it was done he had the biggest smile on his face and of coarse him and the hummer went straight to the floor. I believe he even took it to bed with him! Looks like I might have to try and get him another one for his third birthday in April!

Boy Chris your hobby expenses will start to go through the roof. LOL But at least it's quality time. I guess now it's a family affair. Right on.

Me and my Son (3 1/2) have so far assembled 4 Kits together:
1.) Zoid Puma
2.) Halo Robot Car
3.) Zoid Shot Walker
4.) Zoid Road skipper

I cut and trim the parts for him and tell him how to join them, he is really starting to get into snapping things together. Granted I am still doing the majority of work. Big Smile [:D]

He already knows that my Models are for adults and that the simpler stuff is his age-group. He also loves to watch me work on my Models.

Chris & MMF,
nice work getting the next generation started.

my buddy keeps asking me what my nephew's first kit will be.
hmmm . . .

Chris,
will the budget hold under the strain of 3 active modelers?
:-)

I got a good laugh last night. I mentioned that I was gonna have to make my best friend try a model and i got to hear a real hoot of a story about her taking a pair of model car kits as gifts for the two little boys of her host family when she studied in mexico. She didn't say much but she is not the most technical minded. I thought I was gonna laugh to death just picturing my friend, who didn't figure out that she had a rom drive in her laptop with it open and her looking at it, trying to translate the instructions and help two little boys build cars. If I were a fly on that wall.

Way to go, Chris. I've got four boys, but none of them have shown much interest in models. I think they think it's boring. My youngest two have a one each they are piecing together at the moment, but Dad's got to find some time to help them get going. (I'm the world's worst teacher, and that's what it boils down to doing!!). Maybe they'll get enough homework done that I'll feel they can spend the time on the models, too.

Way to go! I remember my 1st model. I think it was a snap together 1/48 scale harrier. Don't remember who made it though.

An excellent way to develop a child's brain! If he ever asks for a video game, get him a model instead!

Courtney- Could it have sounded something like " put that round thingy on the square thingy that look s like a something or another".

I was glad I built it with him. He has been carrying it around all day and slept with it next to him last night. He seems to be awful proud of it. Even set it up to dispay it a couple of times. Might have to try and find a couple of snap monster trucks for both boys to do now.
