Q 3.7cm Flak43???
Posted by spacepacker on Friday, August 31, 2012 1:32 PM

Most of the pics I have Googled show the catch basket removed when in action, would this be common?

Also does the ammo links? feed thro' the gun to be used again!.

Hope some one can help...cheers....Kenny

Kenny,

The ammo feeds through on a tray of 6 rounds that the loader had to prepare and feed into the gun as opposed to linked rounds. They were reusable (and the spent shell casings would be recycled as well). As for the catch basket being removed, all depends on the mount type (vehicle vs. ground) and such so you will see them with and without the basket as a result. HTH!

Bill, Thanks for confirming my thoughts; I was beginning to loose hope of any one answering.

When you think about it, those guys must have been busy when in action; having to open Ammo cans, load onto the carrier/clip? ( what is the proper term for these things? ) and keep the gun firing, Phew!!!.

Also those carriers would be quite hot to pick-up I would have thought...cheers....Kenny

Glad to be of help Kenny! The ammo loader was a busy guy and also one of the reasons that the guns never really achieved their full "rated" level of firing for any kind of sustained period of time. Big Smile
