Turret welding question.
Posted by Kentucky Colonel on Sunday, September 2, 2012 9:04 AM

For some reason I can't downlaod pictures from my camera today so I can't show you what I'm talking about but I hope I can still get an anqwer.

I've seen several people add welding to their Tiger I turrets and wonder if I should or not.

The Model I'm building is Dragon's  1/35, 3 in 1 , Tiger I late production, kit # 6406.

The turret already had welds all around. Should I leave them like that are or should I add a homemade weld in their place?

I've got to do something about my camera and coumpter so I can post pictures.

Hi Kentucky Colonel,

You have what you need, everything is already there.

The only one I come to think of is the turret roof one.

Check out this link to tiger1.info and you will see what I mean.

Very Best Regards

Thanks. The turret roof is what I'm talking about. Once I put the roof on it doesn't look anything like that .

In your drawing the weld is more raised to match the top of the roof while on the model the weld in down inside between the roof and the side walls of the turret.

Should I add a homemade weld?

It looks good to me like it is but I can add more weld if I should.

I will.

But check your references, this is a big filling weld seem and I am not sure what technique they would have used to create the weld. I will probably use a stretched sprue and push it in place when soften without applying texture.

This may be a bit off topic, but it refers to Turrets in general.

My wife and I were driving around today in our conventional sedan (Buick Le Slobber) and remarked how difficult it was for visibilitiy to see around the SUV's, vans and trucks that are so popular today.  I thought it would be a good idea to have a top turret from a B-17 mounted on top of our car, with an elevated driver's seat and controls up in the turret so I could see over the traffic!  The idea got even more hilarious when I suggested it shoud have a couple of machine gun barrels sticking out the front as well!

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
