The Official Annual FSM/AMPS East Bragging Rights Thread
Posted by wing_nut on Sunday, September 30, 2012 9:27 AM

1st l would like to thank the Northeast Military Modelers Association  for putting on such a good show.  It's was a lot of hard work on theirs part and it all paid off.  The overall quality just gets better and better each year. I am already looking forward to next year.  And I already have an idea for a theme entryWhistling

2nd, congrats to all the winners and a special congrats to all the FSMers that took home the hardware.  An extra special congrats to Bill Carls (aka Treadwell) who had to run out to but a bigger car to get all the medals and trophies home.  Each and every one well deserved.

The thread is open for all the winners to stand up and be recognized.

I am was very happy to have walked away with 2 silver medals, 1 each for my Enigma and Char B1 bis.  And A gold for the "nekkid" halftrack.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I forgot to throw out some props to Treadwell in the other thread. That man KILLED it at AMPSEast. I had the pleasure of judging one of his builds and it was FLAWLESS. It is the first time I ever sat at a table of four judges and saw a build get a sweep of all 10s.

And his Nekkid Gatling Gun...?  WOW!!!! AMAZING craftsmanship.

Nice job Treadwell!!

Excellent work! Unfortunately, I was not able to make it this year. That makes two years in a row now that I've been absent. Lame, I know.

I know I've not been as active lately, but I've been busy with the new career and a new kid. Despite the forums' lack of activity, how was the turn out at AMPS EAST? Still pretty decent?

Hoping to hit up Marauder Con in Maryland this November and then hopefully Mosquito Con in April next year. Maybe I'll catch some of you all there.

Very well deserved Marc.  Sounds like a lot of fun at the show.  Have to look into going to ANY show one day.  Would really like to look around and meet everyone.

Congrats to all!

It's not dead. It's sunday and guys are probably watching football. I'm busy doing the honey-dos and then am going to catch my Giants at the Eagles later. That's not good for me, because that means I will get little to no model building done this weekend.

Marc, Tread and others, congrats on well deserved awards.

Hi guys, Smile
Pati & I just returned from Amps East as we stayed over an extra night. I was never really sure I was going to be able to go until right up before the show.
It was a terrific time and really nice to see many of my friends. Marc ,Mike and bbrownii from FSM, Matt Toms and his crew from NMMA from Ct where I live, Iain,Kenny and Todd from MSC had the AK products line. I did 2 tours of judging and sat in with Bill Schmitt (who I learned alot from) and that made Georg Eyerman happy as we were short on judges as per usual ! I also met and had a nice talk with Neil Stokes. Really a nice guy.
I did have my 1/16 T-34-85 along side my M4 105... both just on display.
In the 'Advanced ' category I did enter a slightly revamped version of my Char B1 bis which I had done for the 'Blitz in France ' GB and a fenderless KV-1e I had finished a while ago. My third entrant was my 1/16 scale Gatling Gun model 1866 which is nearly a complete scratchbuild and major conversion. It was entered in the show theme of 'Naked Models '
I feel blessed with how well my models were recieved.
The Char B1 bis received a Gold Medal and a beautiful acryilic plaque for 'Best Small Army Subject' .
The KV-1e received a Gold Medal and a beautiful acryilic plaque for 'Best Russian/Soviet Subject' and a beautiful acryilic plaque for the 'Missing " E " Award'.
The Model 1866 Gatling Gun received a Gold Medal and a large trophy figurine for ' Best Scratch Built and/or Conversion ' .. He looks like a Viking wielding a Huge X-acto knife! and finally the topper, a stunning acrilic plaque for the Show Theme Award ' Naked Models ' .... ! I am still in a state of shock !!
I want to sincerely thank all of you who judged my work, and all the fine work done by IPMS/AMPS and NMMA.
Thank you guys, I will do a pictoral on the Gatling Gun soon.

Guys: I had every intention of attending this year...unfortunately it didn't work out.

A sincere congratulations wing_nut and treadwell!  tread, you could melt all that down and build your OWN friggin' tank...UNBELIEVABLEBow Down!!!

Anyone know how redleg did?

bbrowniii:  Didn't get an update from you...did you enter anything?

Marc:  It was really nice to see the hardware next to your builds.  Tread:  Would you mind doing the same thing please?  It's nice to see the quality next to the deserved award...and for those who haven't been around much the last year ( Black Eye...like me...Embarrassed) it would be nice.

GREAT JOB on taking home the hardware, that nekkid 1/2 track definately deserved a gold. Far as the forums go the lack of posting could be due to the fact modeling itself is kind of in a vegitative state. Personally with a move to No. Cal (or now the family is telling me there's a possibility of a house opening in TX) coming up no later than the end of the year, I haven't had any projects going which in turn leads to a lower rate of posting on forums.

SMJ!!!!

How are ya, man? I'm bummed that you couldn't make it. It would have been great to see you. What's it been, two years? Three?

Anyways, yes, I did enter some stuff: an SdKfz 222, a JGSDF Type 87, a Stug III E, and a Gundam fig. The 222 earned gold, the Stug and Gundam each earned a silver. The Type 87b qualified for a Bronze but was in the same category as the 222.

I'll try to get some pics up soon.

Not quite vegatative, but certainly highly reduced activity level compared to a couple years back.

Exellent work and Congratulations to you East Coasters... Toast Very well done! Absolutley gorgeous work there! Stick out tongue I can imagine that it was far more impressive to see up close and personal. Us West Coast AMPS guys are dreaming and scheming to have a shindig on this side of the country one day soon...Whistling

Yup... I just look at the other forums - the last post in Dios was over 12 hours ago. In Autos, nearly the same. Before this post, no one had posted in armor for over 15 minutes - not a long time, granted, but not something you would have seen during 'prime time' hours a few years ago.

You know, my concern is that in dropping the hammer on all the "disrupters", out of fear that people would be turned off and leave the site, FSM has inadvertantly turned people off and driven them away from the site...

Ah well...

Ah well...

That actually happened on Scale Auto and now last time I popped in there hadn't been a post in one of the normally heavy flow sections for 2 days..Seeing alot of folks who's names I remember from old SA on other forums these days because they either got banned or just got fed up and left.

Yeah this forum is way too overmodded. Granted I know it's all mostly old folk but the ban hammer and all that lame s h i t isn't all that cool. It's no fun when you can't speak your mind with the threat of getting slammed with a ban.
