M3A1 Scout Car, Zvedza kit in 1/35.
Posted by Delbert on Thursday, October 11, 2012 5:16 PM

Hello everyone,  Just finished this build and thought I'd share the photos.

This is the old Zvedza kit, that i've updated with a little bit of Photo-etch, a Verlinden .50 cal, Verlinden Radio, and pioneer tools, and accurate armor jerry can holders and resin jerry cans.

I feel I improved the old kit a bit and improved my own skills.

there will be more photos on my website soon.

You can check out my M3A1 Scout Car Build Blog Here  if you are so inclined.

 Thanks for looking

Looks nice.  Thanks for sharing your pics.  I have the recent HB one and have been gathering reference material for it as well.

Two things I noticed that you might want to pay attn to in your next build: a seam in the front left tire and a rough front edge of the driver's door.  I always take pictures of my builds as a way to review and check for flaws.

Thanks again!

Delbert, that looks nice.  Not bad for an old Peerless Max repop.  One of these days. I'll pull my Zvezda issue off the ol' to do pile.  I hope mine looks half as good as yours!

Looks very good. The weathering is subtle and not overdone. I think this is a rebox of the Testors brand form the mid 1980's. I have the Testos brand in my stash and will eventually get to it.

It does look good. I'm not familiar with Zvesda kits but you build does not show any problems.

Hey Delbert, nice attempt at building the Zvezda Scout Car.....it can be a real beast to the point you just want to toss it off the bench.

If you interested check out my WIP on the Zvezda Scout Car, I did a long while back, but perhaps you can take away some tips and tricks of the trade:   cs.finescale.com/.../108337.aspx

Hello everyone and thanks for looking.

Roy,

Yes I noticed the seam in the tire.  One of the things I will fix when I get time.   And yes I also had a bit of fit trouble with the doors on this kit.  I do agree that if you miss something, the camera will get it. LOL

Greg,

I'm sure you will do as well or prob better than I did.  I know my limitations. :>

and thanks for the comment on the weathering plastickjunkie I like to do mine in a more subdued manner, although I think I am going to try and master mud in the near future.

as for the kit.  I think the history is this..

Peerless Max in the 1970's? or there abouts. then the molds were used by Italeri, Testors and lastly by Zvezda (umm i seem to have misspelled this earlier).  Zvezda have in the last few years re-released it with a canvas top and new decals.

As for fit.  the kit is old.  lots of large ejector pin marks.  The .50 cal,  the one piece Jerry cans/holders,  and ammo cans, are chunky.  the only real fit issues I had was with fitting the doors.

If you don't mind doing a little work and replacing the chunky parts i mentioned it does build up in a nice model.

Revell of Germany and also Airfix released the old Peerless Max Scout Car. I've got an old original Peerless Max boxing of this kit that included figures and the canvas cover and a 1995 Italeri 50th WW2 anniversary edition. I built it up when Testors released it in the 80s. It was slways one of my favorites.

I like it; for all the reasons stated and more besides. Good job.

  Use 'em if you want:

  1. That front tire could be a early attempt at a single tire chain; to help the tires guide more smoothly through mud.
  2.  Of course, the doors get dinged when combat damage has been repaired
