Making 1/72 SAS/LRDG Jeeps
Posted by Ninja-Viking on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 9:49 AM

OK .....I am starting off.........

First off I need to do a little surgery on the Dragon Jeep body.

Now...on this last pic, there is a lot to do.
In order to mount two (2) spare tires, the location for the mounts needs to be changed.
This is to insure enough room for both tires.
I need to remove both grab-handles, Gas Can mount,
the tire resting plate, and the top of the tow pintle, I'll show why later on that.

Here are the two tire mounts glued in place with proper spacing.
(yes I had to scrafice another jeep for the second tire mounting bracket)

I will fall back onto the Matchbox LRDG set for many of the items,
I will use but they will all get the proper attention before they are added to this project.

I know the feeling. I have done some adjustments to 72nd kits myself, but nothing on this scale.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the incouragement.
I feel that I need to say that the final product may/will differ from you see here.
I will constantly be trying/test fitting different parts to see what works best for you.
That being said.....
by the pic in my last post I had to space out and remount the spare tire brackets,
This is why......., note the "proper" spacing of the spare tires.

Here shows the removing of the slats in the front grill.

Now the "condencer" can from the Matchbox kit seem to be the right scale so I am using it,
However it had two little mounting pins(which I cut off),
I replaced them with one of the removed slats, so that it would properly in the grill.

Now....the dashboard is one of the pieces that you will need from the "donor" kit.
However I needed to modify one for my purposes.
"I" drilled a hole in one to mount the gun pedistle....you will not.

Now I cut up one of the "kits' gun mounts for mounting a .50 cal,
surgerly modified one of my .50's to mount.
This is strictly "test fitting" and my not reflect the final outcome.

Now since I did this, I realised that the .50 sat back too far.
So will look for a different .50 for this purpose.
Now...back to work on other parts.
