I've seen that some of them have a very large front bumper, and some have a roller-like bumper, it looks more like a counter-weight for me. Now, Is this a detail for "early" and "late" variants or something? In fact, I have an M16 in 1/76 (old Matchbox kit) and it has the big bumper. I heard about sub-variants like M16A1, M16A2 and M16A3, but don't know about the diferences, maybe mounted or "early" and "late" M3, I don't know. Any info will be appreciated. Best regards.

The roller was added to assist in vehicles crossing ditches and trenches. The larger bumper often is set forward and a recovery wench is installed behind it.

All M16 MGMCs would have mounted the larger winch equipped bumper. Among the M3 Half tracks, there was variation. It depended on the variant.

Here is a link to a Walk around of a restored M3A that was converted from a Korean M16A1. There are a couple of close up photo's of the winch and another one or two of the front of the vehicle.
