Thought you might want to see how this is coming along.  After paint I sprayed with Future and applied the few decals with the kit.  After covering the decals with more Future I gave it a wash with oil paints.  Will do a little more detail work then hit it with dull coat.

Being Marine Corps, they could still be in old pre CARC paints too WinkWhistling

You're right. I've removed my inaccurate information to eliminate confusion.

Got the first paint on today.  I don't have many references for paint.  What color should the tools (axe, shovel, sledge) be painted?  Thanks!

That yellow Lab looks like my sisters dog!  I've got German Shepherds myself.

Speaking of tires, how do you get rid of the shine on the kit tires?  Do you paint them?

I've always read that if you paint the inside of the wheels that should protect from any interaction between the tire and the wheel.

I don't mean to hijack someone's thread, but as I have the same kit, I was wondering if there is an aftermarket set of tires.  The Trumpy kit does not come with the spare hanging off the front, and I'm a little paranoid about the vinyl kit tires eating the plastic hubs.  There are a lot of SLEP / Stryker wheels out there, but is there anything currently available for the early skinny tires?

LOL I was wondering why there was a picture of a dog when the replies loaded and before I had a chance to read the text. Well I suppose that's not the worst thing you can think of when mentioning a yellow lav...

Yeah I built the Trumpeter ASLAV and loved it. Yours is looking pretty good and interested to see a yellow LAV.

Yes Nice! I agree about the LAVs. I have built three different ones so far: LAV-25, LAV-AT, LAV C2 (all ESCI); and have a LAV-M and LAV-ADV (both Italeri) in my stash. I still need a LAV-R.Stick out tongue That will be my Trumpy LAV.

Just about have this one ready for paint.  It's been a fun build and I may have to build some more of these earth bound contraptions.Big Smile

I will have to pick some of that up for future projects.  I'm afraid I lost my patience (not one of my virtues) and buttoned it up already.  I've been in one of those slumps where I watch other people building here, reading the magazine on how to do things and busy with summer things without completing a build.  I'm determined to push through with this one and get something done.

That Testors Clear Parts glue is pretty tacky stuff. Real good at holding the part in place and it dries fairly quickly.

Thanks LT, I have used that on aircraft canopies before and tried it here.  The problem is there is really no bearing surface to attach to at the front of the periscope.  I got so frustrated with these that I finally decided to leave them off and go old school and paint the inside of the periscopes.  This is just a fun build for myself and I was thinking of trying a dot filter after painting.

Elmer's White Glue works well for clear parts.

It looks like it is a LOT better of a kit that the ESCI one that I built in 1990... And they are good looking machines.

I'm really enjoying working on this kit.  It's been a nice change of pace.  Very nice fit.  Lots of grab handles and tow points to drive you nuts but still a fun kit to work on.

1) I like using Testors Clear Parts Cement, item 3515 for all my gluing of that sort.

2) As far as the Tan goes, for a 1991 Gulf War LAV, MM makes the Tan paint used, in both Acrylic and enamel, Army/Marines Gulf Armor Sand, for the 21st Century wars in Iraq & Afghanistan, Sand 33531 works great. That color also is in their Enamel and Acrylic lines.

USMC LAV-25 Question
Posted by Buckeye on Friday, November 2, 2012 11:27 AM

I too a little departure from building things with wings and started building the Trumpeter 1:35 LAV-25 kit No. 00349.  I have a few questions I hope you can help with.

1) What's the best glue to use on the clear plastic windows the kit provides for all the viewing ports?

2) I want to paint the model in desert tan which isn't shown in the instructions.  What's the best paint color to use?  I paint with Model Master enamels and Tamiya acrylics.

Thanks,

Mike
