BIG ARMOR
Posted by tankerbuilder on Saturday, November 3, 2012 10:27 AM

I am at the back inside page of the latest FSM. I am presently looking at the ad for the DRAGON-1/35-T-28 "SUPER HEAVY TANK". Did such an amunil actually exist?Good gosh two complete sets of tracks on each side. This has to be a monster even in 1/35th !

The next question begging to be asked is HOW MUCH will this baby cost.I don,t build a lot of armor ,but because of its unique appearance I may have to have this one. I guess we,ll see what the budget allows.  TANKER-builder

It did indeed exist but never saw combat. The MSRP on it is $82 but you'll probably find it for around $60 or so initially depending on where you shop/buy from.

These super heavy tanks were indeed interesting. If you found this topic interesting check out the 188 ton German "Maus", which also never made it into combat. If you want to see a really weird 4 tracked tank check out the "Object 279" made by the russians in 1957!

Two T-28s were built. One sat in front of the Patton Museum at Fort Knox, KY for decades until it was recently relocated to Fort Benning, Georgia. It was also referred to as the T95 Gun Motor Carriage.

The outer track assemblies could be dismounted, then joined together and towed behind the tank like a trailer to allow it to cross narrow roads and bridges. The four track set up was to distribute weight more evenly while in the field.

I'll be getting one of these for sure.  I've heard some grumbling on the usual site about some errors in width.  Having never, never, taken calipers to any of my models, it's a non issue, especially as small as they are. And I don't own any calipers.  Besides, I have no point of reference for me to even see the "error".  Heck, I even like the Academy Stuarts and all the M 10 kits.  Oh well, guess I'm not too picky eh?

My Daughter just bought the Meng models A39 Tortoise  for my birthday last Sunday.  Now that's a big model tank as well,  the Brit version of the  T-28.  Looks like a beautiful kit and is quite the shelf space taker upper.
