Only area on half-tracks that was painted Elfenbein (an off-white interior color) were the covered driver's areas and that was later dropped in favor of the standard hull color for the fighting compartment as there wan't much need for it. The idea behind the lighter interior was to make it easier for the crews to see inside an enclosed space in tanks and armored vehicles and the driver's area on the HTs didn't really need that treatment.

I would think Rommel's 250 was originally dk grey and got some sand camo paint on the exterior -- leaving some areas of dk grey to break up the outline. I would go with very very dusty dk grey.  Certainly not white.

Rule of thumb: nothing is ever white that can be seen from the air.
