Hobbyboss 1:48 KV-1 mod.1940 "small turret" (first 1:48 armour build)

Hi all

Not much activity for me modelwise for some time due to a busy family and work life. however I did get some work done on the most excellent Hobbyboss 1:48 KV-1 mod.1940 "small turret".

Normally I build braille scale armour. However I grabbed a few of the Hobbyboss quarter scale range at a princely sum of $12 per kit whilst one of the local hobby shops was having a sale.

A very nice kit, easy to assemble. Paint is Vallejo followed by oil washes, filters, dot filters and Mig pigments. I used Vallejo Russian Green primer for the first time on this build. Sprayed straight from the bottle, the applied paint appeared thick but after about 20 minutes sucked down onto the plastic with no underlying detail loss. This stuff is almost impossible to rub off as well. The usual handling failing to budge anything. Great not to have to go back and touch up.

I still need to add some more polished steel on the inside and outer faces of the tracks, tidy up the mud and dust on the running gear and a few other bits and pieces.

Currently building a base for this build to sit on.

Comments are most welcome (not that there is much to see as yet)

Maybe not much to see but what I see looks pretty good so far. What sort of base are you thinking of doing?

A late dusty summer base.

Glad to see that you're working your way up in scale. Soon you'll be tackling those 1/35 Dragon kits in no time.

The KV is looking swell. I'd like some closer pics if possible.

I've always found the KV1 has an interesting look with that small turret. Nice work on the mono-tone camo, good variation to it.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

Thanks everyone.

I like simple bases to keep focus on the vehicle. So have decided on dusty late summer groundwork.

The chassis is now attached to the base and I need to blend the tracks into the base further. I am working on three projects simultaneously, so with that in mind, should have the build finished by the end of this week.

Quarter scale armour is the perfect size to allow for more weathering techniques that would overwhelm my usual braille builds.
