all the photos you have shown still have intact exhausts and these are almost 60 year old vehicles.... i wouldnt rust it ;)

On the other hand.... I have visited that T34 at the petting zoo (Aberdeen) and only a few spots of rust are on it. I wouldnt imagine seeing any rust on it 60 years ago. Maybe a little surface rust on the tracks or spare links, but not like many of the models I see where its all orange Dead [xx(]

post some pics when you are done :)

The "heavy duty" mounting is just an armor cover to protect the engind and it would be the same color as the rest of the vehicle. If the exhaust pipes themselves are new they'd be a dull steel color, if they're older then they'd be a burnt metal/rusty color, just like the exhaust on a car.

Well, I WOULD have said musty, crusty, dusty, rusty, but looking at this photo:

They look like they are covered with an anti-corrosion coating, possibly aluminum oxide? A crappy chrome job? Would they have bothered? Note that this guy has been prettied-up at one time, probably for a parade, hence the white side-wall tires, white trim on the running boards, etc.

See the thin exhaust pipe that comes out of the heavy duty exhaust mounting? Rustall that thin pipe or not? Tamiya recommends metallic grey (burnt iron or gunmetal). The museum tank is inaccurate of course, the dummies who tend to it just paint the whole thing (sometimes even the tracks) the same green color.

BTW, you don't want to miss this website if you're going to build that new T34-85 from Dragon. The photographer is obviously a modeler and this is the ultimate pictorial reference to the T34 family you'll find anywhere, unless you want to buy that Tamiya CDROM.
