An unknown Sd.Kfz. 234 variant ?
Posted by Jumo213A1 on Monday, December 31, 2012 6:34 AM

Hi guys my favorite vehicle is the Sd.Kfz. 234/2 'Puma' . Over the years I've been collecting lots of pictures and data of this ARK-Series called eight-wheelers.

There are 4 versions, in order of appearance Sd.Kfz.234/2, Sd.Kfz.234/1, Sd.Kfz.234/3 and Sd.Kfz.234/4 .

Furthermore 2 fieldmodifications the Sd.Kfz.234 with the 2cm Schwebelafette converted from the  Sd.Kfz.234/3 available from CyberHobby #6296.

And one with a turret from the Sd.Kfz. 123 'Luchs' shown in Panzerwrecks 4.

A few days ago I've found this picture in a German modelforum from a guy calling it Sd.Kfz.234/4.1 !

So what is this ???Huh? Can someone tell me what this is supposed to be, maybe a fantasy tank?

Or is this really an unknown fieldmodification?

Is it me, or does that turret look like it comes from a Pz 38(t) but without all the rivets. The Germans certainly had a lot of field modded vehicles, many of which there is little, if any, documentaion on.

The designation 234/4.1 doesn't fit in with normal German practice though. The field modded vehciles, as far as i know, were not given any such designations.

I am just guessing here, but i am going for the builders fantasy. But will be nice to see what otehrs come up with.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

It's a 'what-if' vehicle. No such design was ever contemplated by the Germans on paper although it does look interesting! Smile

It's a builder's fancy.  Pz 38(t) turrets were long out of production.  Those removed from gun tanks were placed in fixed turrets in fortifications or pill boxes.  No one can ever prove a negative but unless an undoctored photo arises, I wouldn't worry about the 4.1 version at all.

I find it intriguing, but imagine the 4.1 was meant as a joke.

The name has the ring of the computer age.
