Russian Tank from movie The Beast?

Israeli Ti-67, i think.

What's the movie about? I remember another thread about this.

It is about a Russian Tank in Afganistan. The story is about a crew member who tries to lead a mutany against the Tank Commander, fails and is left for dead. The Afgan rebels find him and to spare his life he agrees to help them destroy the tank, which the Afgan Rebels call The Beast.

TI-67s are IDF modified T-55s correct?

TI-67's are either T-55 or T-62. 67 stands for the six day's war - the year that is.

I saw the movie and it's a nice one. If I remmember correctly it's a T-62. However to be on safe side, take a look at the shape of the turret, if you can tell the difference.

Another good place to look is the rear of the tank. If the back plate of the lower hull is a simple rectangle then it's a T-55, if it's a rectangle and at it's lower right side there is a a half circle then it's a T-62.

I'm pretty sure the tank is a T-62.

I've got the movie on VHS and DVD, it is what model companies market as the Ti-67, which is an IDF modified T-55. It is made by Lindberg, Esci and Trumpeter.

The easiest way to tell a T-55 from a T-62 is the road wheels. On a T-55, there is a pronounced gap between the first and second road wheel. On a T-62, the first three road wheels are close together with a gap between the third and fourth road wheels and a real pronounced gap between the fourth and fifth road wheels.

Additionally, the gunner's auxillary sight on a T-55 is hotdog shaped whereas the T-62 auxillary sight is round. This is the port just to the left of the main gun if you are sitting in the turret.

I have not built/bought that kit yet, but I have seen club members working on the kit and talked to friends who have built it. All I've talked to say it is one of Tamiya's best kits to date.

If you are talking the T-55A(#35257) than I am working on it and It is very nice kit. Goes together smooth and since mine got the Fruil tracks in it.
Gives you 5 different tanks to build from 3 different armies.

Does anyone know if I can use Eduards T-55 detail set for Trumpeter on Trumpeters Ti-67. I am fairly new to using photo etched parts. Everyones help so far has been outstanding.

tamiyas T54/5 is REALLY nice and just BEGS for indie tracks. another half decent one is LEEs. the turret is a bit lower and has a rough casting look to it. it is worth getting.

watched the beast recently, again, and i got to wondering if it was a T62. the turret doesn't seem to be quite so high in the back as it does on a T54/5

The big test is the road wheel layout. If you go by the road wheel spacing, it definitely is a T-55 hulled vehicle.

I have seen that movie. It was ok. Good luck on your project Greg.

It's a Isreali TI-67, the several easy ways to tell. First the road wheel spacing on a T-55 is much different than a T-62, 62's have uniformed spacing in the wheels, were a 55 does not. Also you can tell by the shap of the turret, the 55 has a horse shoe shape to it were a 62 is more round. Also there is a wedge shape to the the top of the turret on a 55.

62's have uniformed spacing in the wheels, were a 55 does not.

Not true. As Rob stated above, the T-62 has larger gaps between with the two rear road wheels than on the front three. The T-54/55 has a larger gap between the first two road wheels. Look at the ID chart you posted for confirmation. Hatches vary on different models of the T-55 and T-62.  Another recognition feature is the bore evacuator. On the T-54/55 it is at the muzzle end of the gun tube (100mm Rifled Main Gun). On the T-62 it is 1/3 of the way back from the muzzle (115mm Smooth Bore Main Gun). Of course seeing how the tanks in the movie were armed with Western 105mm guns (bore evacuator 2/3rds of the way back from the muzzle) this does not apply...
