syrian T-62
Posted by waynec on Sunday, January 27, 2013 10:34 PM
this is an tamiya older kit. it is built as a syrian tank, golan heights OCT73. the syrians put sandbags over the fender mounted external fuel tanks. the rear brackets are for external fuel drums for extended operations, something not necessary in the syrian plans for northern israel. this is probably the most beat up, weathered vehicle i have done. it's dinged up with engine gray and metallic gray, washed with MMA black wash, and powder weathered on top of that. i may redo the sandbags. they look a little big but i used the tamiya plastic ones as a template. they are made of modeling clay, roughed up with a toothbrush and painted IDF khaki (irony). they were held on with wire but i haven't found any mesh the right size.

Got it Wayne!

Oooh, that is nice!!  You did a great job on this one Wayne!  Great camo job and definitely dirty and dusty like a desert warrior should be! The sandbags might be tad too large, but not overly so!  I probably wouldnt' have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it!   And I love the side by side pics with the Centurion!

hey bufflehead. it's possible we think of sandbags as the size you get at the DIY stores for minor flood control. you can carry one in each hand. maybe they make larger ones for military emplacements. easy enough to fix since they are just sitting there, not glued. will see what other comments are and scan in the syrian pic and zoom in. ps i am getting rather good at freehand arabic numbers.

Yeah, I like the smaller sandbags better.

That's a good lookin' build. I've had my eye on the Trumpeter kit of the T-62 for a while too, but can't quite sneak it past the wife yet.  Soon  >:D

working on a green cutting board i rolled out cheap modeling clay and, once i made the first one the size i wanted, made all the rest. pushed in the too small ends stippled with a toothbrush and painted, ironically, israeli khaki. i was able to mold them like they were sagging. WARNING you will be touchiing them best to use a clay close to the paint color OTOH yellow clay made it easy to where to touch up.

Very nice colors, weathering.

The diorama definitely makes a difference.

I need to learn how to do that?

Very good, and you seem to have a lot in your queue..
