Can individual track links in METAL be had for a Tiger?
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, February 16, 2004 8:42 PM
I'm reading Otto Carius' book, "Tigers in the Mud" and it's got me wanting to build a nice Tiger, but I'd like metal track links, if I'm going to go to all the trouble of building tracks, might as well get good ones,

so, can they be had?

Sure, Fruil tracks. Best site and cheapest --- www.hometown-hobbies.com be sure to get the early or mid-late specifications.

Fruil is very nice... but I likey Modelcasten better in 1/35. When its all painted up you shouldn't be able to tell the difference between metal and plastic but lines of appearance you might. Small example... its kind of trivial.... but Modelcastens have the hole in the track horn..... I don't think Fruils do. Also Fruils are a bit thick at the end of the tracks on a Tiger. And if the tracks are painted and weathered well they look good no matter what the base material. But I could see if you were making a 1/16 scale RC armor then real metal becomes interesting option. Something worth thinking over. Good luck with your build! Smile [:)]

Greetings!

"Tigers in the Mud" is a must have for tiger fans. Whittman was brilliant but Carius was far more interesting!

Another vote for "Fruil" tracks. I get mine from RJ products. Don't know if they're the cheapest or not. As far as center guides having open spaces in them, well, a track in the mud would have the holes filled anyway.

Ditto,

And it is hard to beat RJ's Customer Service. If they don't have it, they can get it and they are up front on about how long it will take to come in.

And the unsung heroes (well, anti-heroes) are more interesting still -- like the guys of 509 sPzAbt, who went down to Hungary in early 45 and used their heavy panzers as a blunt instrument, racking up some incredible kills against overwhelming odds.

I love that six or seven of their Tiger II's could attack eighteen or twenty dug-in ISU-152's ... and kill most all of them.

I think Jah was the leading scorer in 509, but don't quote me.
