TRUMPETER SA-2
Posted by waynec on Saturday, March 30, 2013 10:10 PM

Trumpeter SA-2 sam in desert colors. The decals were quite annoying; very small and poor instructions. Fortunately most are cyrillic so most folks won't know if they are upside down or not. The booster and missile attachment is weak, in fact I slide the booster on the rail, first, then the missile and glued them together that way. Paints are MMA and the launcher iswashed with MMA black wash and dusted with Tamiya powder. The missile is weathered with powders. That is myafv club IDF SHO'T KAL from the 188th BARAK BDE Golan Heights ;73 in the background. Note the lack of side skirts as the BARAK BDE didn't mount them.

In '73, when the IsraelIs crossed the Suez Canal and started swanning along the west bank, some SA-2s were lowed and fired at some IDF tanks. I presume a tank commander would give pause to see something that big coming at him. I don't believe any tanks were actually hit by a SA-2 but it would sure be fun to mess with judges by putting one in an anti-tank category.

Very nice Wayne- the SA-2 is definitely a significant modern weapon. Interesting story about it being used as a surface-to-surface weapon in the West Bank. Yes

Nice work as usual Wayne! I think you're right about the anti-tank capability...if nothing else it would make for a really big distraction! Big Smile

Really nice build. Interesting little back round story too.
