Nothing was put in it. It was a solid wood block used with the jack.

This may sound like a really dumb question, but in all the years I have been building German tanks of WW2, from the MKIII on up, there is always a small wooden box mounted somewhere on the fenders or superstructure depending on the type of vehicle. It is usually mounted in a metal frame.

Now for the dumb question, what did the Germans put in that box?
