Man I want some. Brings back memories.
That's cool. The old dome light.
thats pretty cool,nice decor
Actually, those battle lanterns are pretty cheap, I think they cost the USN/USMC about $15 each. There is another version that is connected to ship's power that automatically comes come when there is a power failure, they cost a little more. The batteries were/are the standard six volt lantern batteries. Those things aren't any better than a cheap flashlight but they are pretty rugged.
I like your AAV lighting much better.

I remember spending many nights in the glow of the AAV’s dome lights playing spades and swapping sea stories and now can wax nostalgic at the hobby desk. I worked the wiring to operate from a standard wall outlet and will be mounting a newer one on my hobby desk. Although originally powered from a 24VDC system it is now fully functional from a 120VAC source. Given that these dome lights can be found on myriad military armored vehicles from many years in service this is an easily recognizable item from current and prior armored vehicle crewman.
This was my experimental article; I did not want to start with a new/nearly new dome light. This particular Dome Light will be going to a buddy that is still in the Marine Corps and is still occasionally getting his hands dirty on AmTracs.
