Help With 501st PD Tiger Selection
Posted by capnluki on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 2:33 PM

I am looking into the future and see a Tiger I of the 501st Panzer Division as it appeared in Africa/Tunisia.  I know I need an initial production tiger, but am having a hard time with Dragon/Cyber Hobby's price tag.  I know that Tamiya has also produced one of these.  I don't mind scratch building and am parts, but need a good base to start.  Does anyone have recommendations, as to which kit I should start with?

Lt. Dan,

I have been working on the same 501 Tigers and I am using the Tamiya # 35227 Afrika Int. Prod. Let me know how you make out on your selection.

Leutenant Dan,

I would give the Zvezda offering a go.

A long list of fixes need to be applied but that goes for the Tamiya and Dragon as well.

Very Best Regards

From what I understand, it will be cheaper to go with the Dragon/CH kit.

There's a post on another board with a list of detail differences between the 501 Tigers.

Thank you.  That is where I began my search.  I just hadn't looked up a post on the differences.

I am doing an Italeri one of those right now. It's not perfect, but it works and looks the part with a little help. Let's just say the more you pay for the base kit, the less work you have to on fixing details ;-)

I've heard bad things about Academy's Tiger, but it may just be their early kit with interior.
