DD Sherman

I like someone who is willing to take a big bite!  

This project will need a lot of research, so here's a few starters for your feast.

"Ospreys "Swimming Shermans" book", is a good one, more for use as deployment & colour guides.

"They are not 1/35 scale but I am sure they can be converted with a little math and a copy machine", Google Frank Krenshaw's Scalecalc for a nifty scaling tool.

Contact The Tank Museum they have(/had?) a number of drawings as per the stowage diagram, & a reference section, as well as a DD on display, so finding decent pics will be easier.

Track-Link's Resicast Review  will give you an idea of what you have to do.  Usefull site if you search for DD, for example.

I can't remember if Geoffrey Futter did any articles about the Sherman DD, I'll check.

The guys at MAFVA, serious treadheads, may have the odd thing to interest you, inc. back issues of Tankette.

Thanks Stik and DM.  I will have to get that book as it would be a good investment for what I want to do, to scratch-build a DD.

I want blueprints like this of a DD steel support structure like this:

Since a DD's support structure is made out of welded steel plate, it wouldn't be hard to scratchbuild out of sheet styrene.  If I can't find plans, then I will have to use a compass and use forensic comparatology from photos.

Resicast already make a DD 1/35 in resin. Pricey.  And NO, companies generally don't divulge "to be released" rumors -- it'd kill their marketing

Does anyone know of any sets of plans available of a DD Sherman?  Since it looks just like they were built out of steel plate, it shouldn't be too hard to scratchbuild the steel apron around the tank. The propeller gear cases don't look very hard to build also.  I want to do a Bulge DD as one of the 5 that the 740th TB picked up at a depot.
