Having not built anything by either Skybow or AFV. As I search for something, a late Tiger I to be exact, i notice that they are sometimes referred to separately and also as Skybow/AFV. As I read the review of the new 1/48 Tamiya late Tiger, it is compared to the older Skybow kit that is no longer available. So finally the question... i know, a long time to get here, right?... Is the AFV late Tiger I the re-pop of the Skybow kit?
Marc
Skybow did the Tiger I early and late in 1/48 scale. AFV Club took over the Skybow molds and then released the Sturmtiger which is based on the Skybow Tiger. So yes, the AFV Tiger is a Skybow repop.
Skybow hit the market with a great series of US softskins featuring the WC series of Dodges and the M38 series Jeeps. They then did an M41 Walker Bulldog but AFV Club did one as well and Skybow virtually disappeared overnight. Skybow's M41 was better than AFV Club's. AFV still boxes both versions.
Thanks Rob. I am placing my order soon.
Yes Marc,IMHO it is a better kit then the Tamiya, the late has molded zimm, and they both have PE screens.
here is my old build from 2006
Some of the Skybow kits came with a bonus Warriors resin tank crew (2 figures) and Ordnance photo etched engine grills. I see one Skybow kit on eBay for $8.99.
Anthony that really looks great.
I love coming home and seeing a box on the porch. The kit came today and after a few turns through the box i really like the looks of this kit. Now to find time to build again
And I think Skybow was a repop of Peerless on the Dodges, I have both and they look the same.

Someone must have cheated you and slid an old kit into a Skybow box; the Skybow kits were new tooled. Here is an old comparison done way back in 2001. Cookie Sewell compared the Testors boxing to the new Skybow kit.

the Skybow/AFV Club Dodge kits are among the best 1/35 soft skin models extant. The old Testors/Italeri/Peerless kits were great for 1975. But the Skybow kits hit the market +20 years later and the finesse and fidelity to the actual vehicles is enormous.
