When I came across this kit in a discount bin at my hobby shop, I had to buy it, because it looked so familiar.
When I got home, lo and behold, it was the same tank that I had played with when I was younger.
Construction was a burden. This kit was evidently not the most well-engineered, and the instructions were more contradictory than helpful (it told me to attach items in places that would not allow the armor or the mine plows to attach to their correct locations).
Construction Pics:
I left the top rung of tracks off, since they were a nightmare to put together, Link by Link. Oh well, not that they would be missed on the final product anyways.
The mine plows were simple, easy subassemblies that were, for some reason, made to be fully mobile. I had to struggle to get them to sit in the pose that I wanted in order for me to glue them in place.
With construction finished, painting commenced.
First the grey:
Then the Blue:
I have a question at this point, for all you armor experts out there:
What is the purpose of the Box and the Log on the back of this tank? I know that they cover up the hatches on top completely. Are they some sort of counter-weight for the mine plows?
Then, I painted the Black markings:
Look familiar to anyone?
Yes, Its a Micro Machine!
and a final shot with "Big Sis" (and some touch ups)
All in all, I think it looks rather snazzy...
However, it doesn't look quite finished yet. The tracks are still bare plastic, which will need to be changed, but should they be black (like the little guy) or more realistic, i.e. weathered?
It also does not have the COBRA emblem that the little one has, since I am not sure how to paint such a complicated logo (and without Decal paper, unable to made a decal). For now, I'll just finish the tracks and hold off on the COBRA emblem.
