Gluing Track Links
Posted by pilotjohn on Friday, August 23, 2013 7:29 PM

I have just finished my first armor kit (Tamiya 1/35 Tiger 1 Mid-Production).  After always aircraft it was a nice change.  I saw the video on the track links jog that Aaron had put together but came up with something that really worked well for me.

I took Scotch Blue Painters tape and de-tacked a length that I needed.  I then could place the links one by one get things cleaned up and lined up without them moving.  Used the Testors liquid cement, and after 15 minutes peeled the tape away and then gave the tracks another 5 minutes to start to setup.  Worked great and I never had a link separating during placing or gluing and the tape line makes a perfect straight line jig.

If this is old news (like my mind and age) please disregard.

And all those track links and wheels makes an aircraft cockpit seem easy.

I have done the same thing. I wouldn't worry about any tips about model building being "OLD NEWS". There is always someone just starting the hobby that doesn't know how to do things that will help them along.

I agree that it's always wise to share. I've done something sort of similar, except without the tape! I might try tape next time.

or someone building for years and doing first indy track (whicjh is why i do warwheels) my dml ZSU-23/4 tracks were a loose fit so i primed them and that tightened most of the connections. have them in pairs of four 12 link sections face down think i will a/b steel lightly, flip them over and dothe same before hooking them all together.

now i DEFINITELY know why i build warwheels. these are done. fortunately i have had another experience of having to work through a problem for a deadline and this reenforced my perseverance. they don't look great but will do.
