1:35 Italeri Panther Ausf. A
Posted by Hasenpfeffer on Friday, September 6, 2013 10:53 AM

Hey everyone,

This is my 2nd completed build from the excellent Steel Cats GB run by Tigerman. I finished this just under the wire. I thought I'd share here since maybe some of you don't enter the GB part of the forum much. I'm just as guilty while part of the GB of not coming over here much... Embarrassed

Anyway, this is the old Italeri kit. I made a ton of upgrades with AM, donor parts (spares, extras, etc.,) and some scratch building. It almost isn't recognizable as the original kit anymore. I have to say that I'm quite pleased with how it turned out given my expectations going in. Any feedback is welcomed.

Kit: 1:35 Italeri Panther A

AM: Bronco Panther (Early) individual track link AB3541, Cavalier zimmerit #105, Aber MG34, Bits & pieces from an old On The Mark Models PE set (Panther G) including the deck screens, Aber antenna

Major donor parts mostly from the CH Panther A I finished late last year: Side skirts/brackets. periscopes, cupola (wish it had periscopes...), turret vent/shield, main gun, old Tamiya road wheel (turret), extra Friul track links... and on and on.

Biggest inaccuracy IMO besides any nitpicking of dimensions etc., was the hull MG. Italeri just gets lazy here by not providing a proper ball mount. They only give the hollow "bulge" that covers the slit design of the Ausf. D or Early A models.

So on to the pics... let me know if you have any interest of more. Just ask if you'd like to know how something was done, or you can visit the Steel Cats GB and read through the many pages there. I don't know the page this build starts on, but it was sometime in late December 2012.

A couple build shots:

Bronco indies are nicely detailed and paint up well, but are frustratingly fragile during final installation. Plus they don't fit the drive sprocket teeth as well as I'd like.

And the finished model - from 5th SS Wiking, Warsaw area of operations August 1944.

Hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I did building it. Wink

Enjoyed  your sharing your build with us Dave. It's been fun to watch it all come together. Superb work just like your first one.

Hi Dave,

Very convincing and well executed.

Did not quite get our of the shoes myself for the group build but I hope I can PM you with some specifics to the build?

Very Best Regards

Johan

Thanks for the comments, guys. I'm glad you like it.

Johan, absolutely. PM me whenever. I'll be happy to share. Would have been nice to see your Panther A over there in the Steel Cats GB. Hopefully we'll see it sometime here or another GB.

Dave, I don't remember if I commented on this or not in the Steel Cats GB, but seeing it again, I've got to say you did a great job!  The detail and upgrade work you did is fantastic and so is the painting&weathering!  Superb looking Panther!
