To introduce myself, and a couple questions.....................
Posted by olfogey on Monday, October 7, 2013 2:02 AM

New to the board...........I'm 62, disabled vet, and looking to build 1/25 scale axis (German) heavy armor as therapy and for a distraction.

I would like to know where to get kits (online), where I can get the best prices AND customer service. REALLY tired of dealing with greedy people that don't care!!!

I'm leaning toward "Tamiya" kits as they seem to be recommended more than others, and not so "fiddly".

I'm building 1/25 to gain a bit of size due to age and disability issues.......please don't recommend 1/35, yes, I know........the selection is better, but they are too small for me to enjoy working on.

Where to get good painting tips?? (airbrush) & recommended (acrylic) paint choice?

Unfortunately, there are only a handful of 1/25 kits: a Cernturion, a Chieftain a Tiger, a T34, an Su 100, a Panther,  and a Jagdpanther, all by Tamiya and all dating back to the 1970's. There may be one or two repops of these kits. You can find them at Lucky Model. http://www.luckymodel.com/ .I didn't see then at Sprue Brothers or Squadron.

If you have a local hobby store that deals with Stevens International, they should be able to order the T34, Tiger and Chieftain since they are listed as in stock.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

There are also some newer, and very nice models in 1/16th scale. More expensive than the 1/24 or 1/25 scale old kits but you get what you pay for.

Dont forget the Academy clonesof the Tamiya Panther and Jagdpanther. I believe those are still failrly easy to find online.

As far as online service for a hobby shop goes, in my limited expereince, Sprue Brothers is hard to beat.

And welcome aboard. ;-)

I would have to agree, I recently did a small order with them, and pleasantly surprised!! So.....I dropped them a line today, and they "will" have some 1/25 "Tamiya".

Guess that's the way I'll go...........Now, for some painting tips......................

Well if you want to use acrylics for airbrushing, you can't go wrong with Tamiya. Especially for German armor. They have most of your needs covered.
