Airbrushed pigments?

I use pigments to simulate dirt/mud/rust on specific area. For an overall dust effect, I spray Tamiya Buff or Tan thinned down to 10% of paint.  

Yes, however do not have that color so I improvised and experiment.

Why not try a very heavily thinned coat of dust colored paint?  I get the same type of effect with Tamiya Buff thinned down to 10 or 15% paint.

Well, I tried experimenting doing a mix of white non colored pigments, some AK dust color and AK fixer...the mix looked very nice, but it clogged everything!!... one nozzle is deem lost.

So, I tried using just pigments with thinner and color...no, same result.

So, I finished doing it the old school with a brush.

A fixer helps pigments stick to the surface. So you'd better use a fixer after applying pigments. IME, Tamiya acrylic thinner and MIG fixer work the best. Tap water works OK.

I used AK-Interactive Dust Efffects Wash to achieve that overall dusty look,you just slop it on ,and if you don't like it just remove or rework it with a damp brush.

Should I use pigment fixer afterwards or just left it alone?

It is possible to airbrush MiG pigments but you need to be sure you're using a broad tip/nozzle to avoid clogging. You may also encounter issues when you go to clean your airbrush. I've used regular tap water with MiG pigments in the past to build up a very light dusty finish but the trouble I had with it was 1) I had to wait for the water to dry/evaporate before I could tell how heavy it had built up and 2) the water served to 'fix' the pigments so it was no different really than working with highly thinned paint. If you want an overall dusty effect, you are better off using the pigments dry and applying them with a large sable brush (ala makeup brush) and then adjusting as needed.

If you mix pigments with a medium (e.g., thinner) and spray the mixture, you essentially spray a paint.

Dab a brush with MIG pigment, hold the brush in front of your AB, blow the air, and fix the pigments.

I want to make it look and overall dusty effect. Like it went over a dry dusty road.

Think about it.

Pigment mixed with a carrier medium = paint.

Exactly what sort of effect are you trying to produce?
