I'll experiment a little more, and see if I can get a pic to send.

Thanks Sherm

Chris - interesting problem .... one I haven't ran across before. I've heard of not being able to share pics over IM but haven't heard of problems with attaching and e-mailing them. What type of pic (jpeg, bmp. etc) are you trying to send ... is it too large a format maybe?
Do you have a friend who will let you e-mial pics for you???
Just some thoughts.
Good to have you join us in the build, hopefully the picture problem will get worked out.

Hey Chris, I read you on the cost. And your use of the kit stuff will probably wind up looking more realisitc than a one-piece resin item anyway. Maybe the resin sets will give you some inspiration on how to arrange the stowage though.

Shermanfreak, I would like to be involved with the group build. It looks like quite a few people have put together some amazing examples of shermans. However, every time I send a picture over email, or IM my computer comes up with an error report. I quit trying to send pictures a while ago. So, unfortunately, I will not be able to share pics of my latest project. The M4 is coming together nicely. Most of it is together right now. I'm putting on some Eduard Photo Etched parts right now. It's my first attempt at PE and I'm pleased with the results so far.

Larry Dunn,
Those do look like some cool add ons by Blast, but I'd like to use the extras supplied by Tamiya. I'm going to add an amount of gear which looks appropriate, but not cover up too much of the engine deck or the transmission housing. Thank you very much for the recommendation. Now I know of another website I can look at to think about spending money. Oh yeah, money is the other factor in going with the Tamiya extras. Thank you

Weird, isn't it? The stuff often looks like it's just piled on.

A lazy man (like me) might want to use the Blast Models Sherman stowage set. They make one for both early and late Shermans, IIRC.

I know Blast because they make a corrected turret for the Tiger I (the assymetrical shaped one).

Chris - check out an upholstery shop if you have one near you, all kinds of great string there. Are far along on your M4 are you??? Why not join the Group Build, still 3 weeks left. That way you can just e-mail your pics to me and I'll post them through the group.

Thanks Shermanfreak,

I'm going to try the medical tape, and I'll keep a look out for the right color thread. I'm working on Tamiya's M4 right now. It seemed like a good idea after following your group build for about a week. I'd show you my progress, but my internet connection isn't good enough to upload pictures. Thank again,

Chris

If I'm making straps, I'll use medical tape cut in strips and painted. It has a nice texture to it that works well. For rope, I have a roll of string, comes in beige and one roll lasts me a long time ... very long time. For the actual tie downs on the tank, you can sometimes use staples depending on the size.

Greetings,

I've been looking at pictures of Shermans in the ETO and I didn't see much holding the mounds of equipment stacked on the tanks. The crews must have used cable and ropes to hold some of that stuff in place. My question is, what techniques and products do ya'll use to simulate tie downs for equipment storage? I tried some sewing tread and wire, but neither looked right. Thanks ya'll.
