Is the new Tamiya M1A2 buildable for Desert Storm?

I know you can build it as an M1A1, but what should you do to backdate it to an M1A1 circa 1991?

Sure you can, just build it as the M1A1HA and don#8217;t use the Aux. Power Unit that goes in the bustle rack or the Combat Id Panels. Both came out after #8217;91. Some units had A.P.U.s in the first gulf war but they hung off the right rear corner of the hull in an armored box but many didn#8217;t.

Oh, I think there is some conduit molded on the turret for the APU and Anti missile system that shouldn#8217;t be there in '91 if you post a picture of the turret roof I show you which ones. If not I I'll post a pic. When I get mine later this week.

Later.

Hey Larry,

I was looking at a pic of the sprues and Tamiya didnt put on the apu or aint missle conduit, so you dont have to worry about cutting it off.

Happy Modeling

Thanks Brian -- good news! I'm reading a book on Gulf War I and am keen to build my mighty Abrams for the earlier conflict.

Here's a related question. You get all kinds of cool stowage in the new Tamiya kit. Did the M1A1's carry all that stuff, and in that fashion, in '91?

Larry,
Our tankers, scouts, and infantry carried all kinds of stuff on the vehicles. MREs, water cans and boxes of water, rucks, ammo cans(used for storage) and ammo cans with ammo (7.62 and 50cal) were put anywhere we could as long as it did not interfere with the operation of the weapon systems, turret traverse, and visability. On M2/3s stuff would be strapped on to the side skirts, tied off to the handles. We had the flat MRE boxes, not the more square ones you see today. Hope that helps.

Thanks SFC. That's helpful information.

Quarter Cav -- spearhead of the Big Red One's assault into Iraq. Conqueror of the Highway. Are you stationed in Wurzburg?

You guys took on the Tawalkana Republican Guard, right? If you were in an M1A1 in Desert Storm, I'll paint up my kit as your tank. Or did Quarter Horse still have M1's in Desert Storm?
