Didn't find the correct half-track
Posted by zokissima on Monday, February 23, 2004 12:09 PM
Recently, on this forum I saw built-up pics of the Tamiya 88mm Gun Flak. It was absolutely beautiful, and I ran out a couple of days ago to buy one. I picked it up, and immediately wanted to pick up something to go with it. The 8t halftrack would have been a good option, but alas they were out.
Instead, I noticed an old Revell kit of the Demag D7 1t halftrack, and picked that up, since it looked like a nice kit (the shop owner let me look in the box)
Would it be completely inaccurate to build these two up together as one model, or should I just go ahead with it anyways?

Not sure I understand the question. Did you want to tow the 88 with the Demag? If that were the case, I think it might be too underpowered to do so.

Pulling the 1.5 ton 75mm Pak 40 maximized the towing capacity of the 1ton Sd. Kfz. 10. No way it could handle a 7200 kg. 88mm. flak.

Thank you! That is what I wanted to know :)
What else could I use beside the 8 ton halftrack to accurately model the gun being towed?

I saw a couple of built models being towed by the tamiya 8t semitractor. i was wondering whether the Opel Maultier could have been used in this role as well?

An Opel Maultier had only a 2 ton towing capacity, so it wouldn't make it either. A Sd. Kfz. 7, 8, or 11 would be your best choices. I have photos of a flak 18 being towed by a Henschel cargo truck, but I think this would have been hard on such a vehicle.
