Welcome, Stuart!
you can also check in the hardware store for picture hanging wire.
it comes both braided & twisted and in a variety of sizes.
it is pretty soft, so it will take a bend.

To prevent string from unraveling I raid the Wive's Quilt tool box, she keeps a liquid in there just for that purpose. It is designed to prevent the edges of cut cloth from fraying.

It does stiffen the fabric a bit, but I think that would be rather in your favour for what you are trying to achieve.

Welcome to the Forum.

Welcome to the FSM armor forum, Stuart 72. Glad to have you. I agree with Robert's solution for your cables. Hope to see your posts often.

Ahh ... first post ... welcome to FSM Stuart72. Good to have you join us.

When I build my recovery vehicle I used heavy upholstery thread. You should be able to find it at any shop that recovers furniture. I comes in many colours and I went with black which makes things easier. To prevent it from unraveling, just pull it across a candle, the wax will keep it nice and tight.

Here's a pic of mine.

Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

I am currently building a M32 Sherman recovery vehicle and want to built the crane in the up position.

I want to use two cables but the last time I tried some thread that was to scale. I painted it a rusty brown black color but after painting the threads unravel.

What can I use in subsititue. Is there a guitar string size that would be about right.

Thanks
