Seam lines on Sherman road wheels???
Posted by SMJmodeler on Monday, February 24, 2014 1:54 PM

Guys:

I'm just starting the1/35 Dragon M4A1 DV Sherman and I noticed that the road wheels had a seam line....nothing new for old kits but it seemed a bit strange for new Dragon moldings...Surprise ...hmmmm

So I checked-out a couple builds in some other reputable military model magazines and noticed that one had NO seam lines and the other one did.  The one WITH the seam lines was a top notch build and I highly doubt he would have made a rookie move and leave them unsanded.

My question:  Were these wheels actually manufactured  in such a way that the seams never wore off/ down?  It seems strange!

Thanks for the help!

You can see the seams on real M4 tanks, seams are also present on modern tanks like the Abrams.

Hey SMJ......http://www.freesmile.ir/smiles/441913_wub.gif  where 'ya been?

And I hate to say it, 396313_wacko.gifbut ......

          ......it sure seams so.

I've wrestled with that issue before and was divided as to what to do.... so, I just sand 'em down to be barely noticeable. It's just a wear issue.

Rob Gronovius

You can see the seams on real M4 tanks, seams are also present on modern tanks like the Abrams.

But the seams eventually wear off with use. Just like the little nubs on a car tire.

Cool stuff...

Another question on the road wheels, was it common to see the track impressions like in this photo - I suppose it depends a lot on the weather and ground conditions?

regards,

Jack

Obviously not impossible. Lets just say that the longer and farther the AFV is away from the hardball (paved road surface), the less likely tht you will see that.

Jack, those are just mud marks, think of the inner track surfaces like a rubber stamp and dirt, dust or mud as the ink. You can wipe those horizontal marks off with your hand or a wet rag.

Rob Gronovius/stikpusher/ jgeratic: Thanks guys, as usual this forum is a wealth of information... with pictures for a visual aide too, thanks Rob!

disastermaster:  I've been spending most of my available hobby time on model railroading.  I'm excited about trying my hand at scenery and small dio's (24" X 48"...small as railroading goes).

I always enjoy a good military build though...kinda' brings me back to my roots.  My Sherman is for a GB that Tigerman is hosting.  Thanks for checking in!
