What happened to Wittmann?

Wittmann lost his life when his Tiger I was attacked and destroyed sometime after the landings at Normandy. There is still some debate as to whether he was taken out by an aircraft, or an M4 Sherman Firefly. I'm sure that others will have more complete knowledge than I do; I'm going off information I remember from a much, much earlier thread in these Forums discussing Wittmann's loss.

Also, you can go to "Achtung! Panzer!" and read a short Bio on him in their Tank Aces page.

M.Wittmann suposedly took a hit from above( probably from an antitank rocket) although some say a firefly did him in ! Thank god for the USA someone took him out ! That crew had some major kills , frightening # as a matter of fact ! Otto Carrius , is I think still alive and kicking ( saw a show with him on it a bit back !)achtung panzer has some info on tank aces ( although just the more popular ones, there were many minor aces as well !) heres the link http://www.achtungpanzer.com/general.htm This is an incredible site if you are into german ww2 history ,.... Shermanfreak could point you in the right direction for the allied history sites I am sure ! Sherm , there were aces on the allied side as well , could you name some of them so I can catch up on that portion of the war ? I am a Complete numbskull about the allied info here !Black Eye [B)]

Most famous of the U.S. tanker aces was Lafayette Poole.
Passed away not too terribly long ago I believe.

Unfortunately, no autobiography was done by him that I know of.
