Stikpusher,

I had forgotten the M578 Wrecker, that would make an awesome model!

Thank you for your kind input,

Earl

A43, I have very similar interests. one of my modeling goals is to have a 1/35 kit of one of each type of vehicle in my first line unit, a mech Infantry battalion. When I started that quest over 25 years ago, all that was out there in 1/35 injection plastic were the Tamiya M113 family kits: their M113, M106 and M577 tracks, and M151 1/4 tons. Over the years that has gradually improved. Italeri came out with the M923 5 tons, M901 ITV, AFV Club released the M88 and M35 Deuce and a Half, and just recently Tamiya finally gave us the Gamma Goat! Now if Italeri ever uses their M107/M110 hull to make a M578 wrecker my quest will be done. yeah I could get one of the Italeri SP kits for the hull and a Verlinden conversion,  but one can always dream. Like you I would love to see some engineering equipment frm that era as well- an AVLB and M728 CEV are tops on my list there. But recently there seems to have been a revival in post WWII American armor with new kits coming out again. (as well as a flood of Soviet stuff from Trumpeter- if only my finances matched what they have been putting out in the past 5 years!) The choices out there are not bad today. Certainly better than they were 25 to 30 years ago. And they appear to be getting better as time goes on.

Gamera,

Now this is good information that I am looking for. Thank you for your input and I will check out Rob's website.

Thanks Rob,

My interests lie in WW2, Vietnam, Cold War and modern day equipment. But I would like to have an array of equipment to make choices from. One cannot make those choices without information or a source of models that are available.

Army guy,

Perhaps that is one reason that we won the war. We saved money on our tanks due to lesser paint and labor costs being spent as the Germans did.

Thank you for your feedback , this is exactly the kind of discussion which I am looking for. Thought patterns, regardless of the scale or equipment. Thanks again deattilio.

I have an interest in subjects which you may also consider as support equipment such as the partial items list which I sent to Stikpusher. I have the same interests as others in heavy armor of which I am purchasing before they are no longer available. I am not against the Sherman's,or Panzer's. It get's frustrating contacting manufacturer's and suppliers requesting a catalog and finding very few that are available. Anyway, i digress from my thoughts. Perhaps there are a lot more out there but I cannot find them without catalogs. I have been looking for quite some time for the M983 Hemmt tractor in 1:35 plastic, not resin. I have also been looking for the items which I previously mentioned.

Thanks Roy for your patience,

Earl

Thanks Stikpusher, I appreciate your response. I had intended to seek a point at which there were more models of American equipment. I know that there are numerous pieces of equipment that could be modeled. Naming just a few for conversation purposes:

..Mess truck with water trailer and misc. equipment pieces.

..Deuce and a half's with steel compartment for transporting nuclear warheads and other special weapons.

..Heavy haulers for disabled M60 tanks

..Combat Engineers bridge setting equipment, transporters for bridge sections, etc,

These are just a few models to through out there for discussion, there are too many pieces of equipment to mention here. I would like to hear of other plastic models that others may be interested in and also to start a dialog of which kit makers might take an interest in.

Tasca almost exclusively makes 1/35 scale Shermans. Iv'e never built any of their kits but there supposed to be great.

There are holes in the US 1/35 vehicle collections in injection plastic. Mostly in the mid Cold War era I would say, but they are gradually being filled. As for how many ways are there to paint a Sherman vs a Tiger, I dare say color wise there are more color choices out there for a Sherman. Both were seen in monotone and whitewash schemes. But the Sherman served far longer, around the globe under more flags, and in more schemes. The Tiger camo schemes are gonna be a variation of 3 colors. Sherman's used many more under the US flag alone in 1945.

I'm still waiting on an LVT-1, LVT-3 & 3C and EFV to make their appearance in 1/35. I'd grab them up in 1/72 as well and would like to see the LVTP5 in that scale as well. A 5-ton and 7-ton with M198 and M777 in 1/72 would be nice too.

I think the reason you see more German armor than American armor on this and other modeling forums is not for lack of subject mater, but how many ways do you paint a Sherman versus how many ways to paint a Tiger.

You have to admit the German's  had more color's on their tanks than the allied tank's did.

@Alpha 43: most common subjects are covered in 1/35.  Even lesser vehicles/guns are being covered (like the M5 High Speed Tractor, Diamond T cargo truck, M19 Tank Transporter).  What subject are you looking for?

Well, pickings used to be a little sparse but there's a lot of stuff out there now.

Lotsa good Shermans of the different versions from several companies.

M10s, M36s, and M18 Hellcats from AFV Club and Academy - all pretty good kits.

New M3/M5 Stuarts from AFV Club and the pretty good old kits from Tamiya

New M24 Chaffee's from Bronco and I forgot who else

New Locust   airborne light

Even crazy stuff like the T28 from Dragon.

I'm not going to even try to go into detail on the wheeled and halftracks that Rob talked about.

This guy has a pretty good site on the subject.

I am assuming you are talking about WW2 US armor. There is a pretty good selection of US armor, half tracks and jeeps. There is an array of jeeps in more variants than you can shake a stick at. As far as support wheeled vehicles like the deuce and a half, M26 Dragon Wagon, Amtracs, and anti-aircraft vehicles, they have all been made in plastic.

Very little American armor?  There is a ton of it out there.  What are you looking for that isn't available?

Being a relatively newcomer back to this hobby, I am surprised and disappointed by the abundance of Tigers, Panzers,et. etc. and very little of the vast American equipment that could be put on the market. I have nothing against the demand by modelers of this equipment but there are those who probably feel as I do. For those that I may have offended, I apologize. For those who feel as I do, please speak up.
