Revell T-90
Posted by Klik on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 11:25 AM

I'd been looking for a good, relatively inexpensive T-90 kit that wasn't over complicated (i.e. beyond my skill set), when I happened upon this kit at my LHS:

1/72nd was the way to go! (I'm running out of shelf space...)

I didn't take too many in-progress pics, because I was waaaay too excited to be building this kit. I recently got into the Battlefield 4 video game, and the T-90 is my favorite tank in the game (don't get me started on the Abrams Angry), so I decided to build it along the lines of the T-90 from the game.

Inspiration pics;

Note the stowage.

Anyhow, I started with a base of grey:

And here is where I ran into the kit's "quirks": the tracks are two flat pieces each. The instruction manual literally says that you are supposed to dip them in hot water and bend them over the wheels, which sort of worked:

the tracks were slightly long--by about a 1/2 link--and I over-trimmed them, so the tape was there to help secure the gap and keep the tracks from sagging where they met over the middle return roller. Didn't matter-the skirts covered it up real well.

I actually forgot to remove the tape--it's still under there right now.Embarrassed

All in all, the tracks came out pretty well:

I painted the camo scheme onto the tank--sorry, no pics--making it up as I went along, so it looks a little weird:

Stowage was "borrowed" from a 1/48th Humvee, and subtly reworked and repainted to 1/72nd scale. I removed the brackets for the fuel drums, since they are not on the Battlefield T-90, and added stowage. The game's T-90 actually has a "fence" on the back, but I couldn't fabricated one with what I have right now.

Final, Glamour shots for y'all:

That's all I've got.

Hmmm... I posted this over a week ago. No comments, must mean it's perfect. Thanks for looking.

Pretty cool! Haven't built any 1/72nd armour but those tracks look like a pain, they came out looking good in the end though- good work!

Nice looking tank !

I cut my AFV teeth on 1/72 scale Revell kits (mostly WWII stuff) and they are great.

If you like 1/72 scale vehicles, I suggest you take a look at this site : http://www.onthewaymodels.com/index.html
