Thanks Rob!  I had no idea one was getting started up!  I may have to join up and now I have an incentive to buy one of these new kits!

With all these new WWI armor releases lately, (FT-17, St. Chamond, Char 2C, Mark IVs), can a newly tooled A7V Sturmpanzerwagen be far behind?

Hmmmm Hmm.... I sense a WWI Steel Beasts GB forthcoming......

oops, did I just say that? Whistling

There already is a WW1 group build scheduled that will include tanks.

The older WW1 kits were more like Dumb and Dumber. I think many of the companies have inside information on one another and they try to beat one another to the punch. The information may come from the subject source, "Hey the Takom guys were just here measuring that same tank..." I mean, there's not a plethora of these 100 year old tanks sitting at town parks.

And here I thought we only had the Emhar kit. I can only imagine an Eastern European kit...

Considering all the kits recently announced, I suspect many more WWI kits may show up depending upon how well these ones sell.

Well, for so many years, there was only one kit of this subject to choose from. Soon it will be three. Any way you look at it, the situation has improved markedly.

There was another for about a decade, Iterus from the Eastern European countries made a Mark V composite that was better but hard to find: http://www.internetmodeler.com/2003/may/first-looks/Interus_MkV.htm

Well I was sorta excited that a Mk IV was coming out, but today Takom annouced they were doing both a male and a female version and I think the Takom one will be the way to go. Their recent track record for new kits is much better IMHO then Tamiya's. Think tamiya's repoped m109's with their figures and italeri moulds when Takom has released Leo C2 Mexas, the St. Chammond and others which were really nice.

I feel like Tamiya tried to upstage Takom's release however, based on the PMMS release info the Takom one is much more appealing

My friend is insisting that he must start and complete the Emhar kits.  I said to him: "Do you drink expired milk as to not waste it?"

I understand his viewpoint. Once I buy a kit, I have every intention of building it, even if a newer better kit of the same subject comes out. I will not be defeated by any model!Black EyeBang HeadWhistling

Oh i did not have to see this. I felt this way too until i started an eastern express kit

I have seen some excellent Emhar Mk.IV builds, one that was super detailed and won best of show! Lets not forget Shepard Pane's build featuring the spontoon hanging from a crane showing full scratch built interior detail.

Yes new tooled kits of this subject are overdue and in demand! Manufactures are listening to us modellers and seeing what is on the contest tables, be thankful we live in this age where a idea can be transformed to a prototype model then a kit in mere weeks vrs years previously.

Far as motorized there is no better design of a tank to motorize! All the track drives, rollers and mechanisms are hidden. The lozenge shape is the ultimate design to travel over obstacles, add the trailing wheels and axles and this machine is unstoppable! I would venture to guess Tamiya will use the design of the idler wheel to adjust the track... just like the real Mk.IV.

Looking forward to the figures that will follow, a epic Vimmy Ridge diorama will not need tanks, just boots on the ground and trenches lined with hundreds, er thousands of sandbags!

That is not a valid analogy; to expand upon it, that would mean everyone everywhere should immediately get rid of older, unstarted kits once a new up-to-date version is produced.

You've seen enough secondary sales in the armor modeling world to know that someone somewhere someday in the future will pay premium money for the old models. Not saying the kits are worth what collectors or nostalgia builders pay, but they still have value.

You can't sell expired milk to your neighbor, but if you live on a limited budget, already have the old kit in hand and like a challenge, what's wrong with building it?

Getting an A7V to market would be nice. There is only one survivor, located in Queensland AU.  Replica vehicles reside in Bovington (UK) and PanzerMuseum Munster (Ger).

Takom is a new actor but their kits have been VERY WELL received: 1/16 FT-17 renault, St Chamond tank,  Soviet Objekt 279,  Leopard C2 Mexas.

I think only around 20 A7Vs were produced, yet there were two styles of hull plating, roof vent, and gun mantlet, add-on cupola armor kits, mud guard variations, etc. I have the Tankograd book on the A7V, and it was very surprising to see that there were a lot of subtle variations between the small number of tanks produced. It will be interesting to see how a kit maker will tackle these points. Don't take this as naysaying, as I want a new tool A7V a much as the next guy. Maybe we will also see a K-Wagen too? Never say never.

Yes, I do. But to clarify, I have a finished Mk V Male already, and my Mk IV Female has been assembled sans tracks and unditching rails for many, many years. it will be amusing to compare the sow's ears to the silk purses headed our way!

Start looking for Emhar Mk.IVs at secondhand sources... looks like the WWI tank bug is running rampant.

Wow, those Takom Males and Females look nice. Makes me glad to have held off on buying the Ehmar kits! Looking forward to both of those finding a home in my stash!

I was just looking at the Takom static "male" and "female" versions of the MKIV on the Perth Military Modeling Site. The kits seem to be much more detailed right down to a realistic depiction the transmission and individual track links.  No word about if there will be any drivers compartment or engine detail.

Thanks Roy, good to see that it's not a Emhar re-pop and with Takom jumping in too it's even better to have a choice!

With the new Meng FT-17 and Takom's  St. Chamond there's a pretty good selection of Great War tanks  now. Wouldn't mind seeing a new Schneider or better yet new kits of the Whippet series but I'm certainly not complaining!

Now those look interesting. I have not heard of this company before though, do they have a track record.

While not my normal thing, as an armour buff, I think it would be wrong to miss such an opportunity not to get a vehicle from the beginning of armoured warfare. No doubt an A7V will be following soon.

Thanks Roy.

Although it does not stand head of line in any of my interests it is too significant a subject to pass on; sit one of those next to a modern Challenger for a neat display.  Motorized or not, even "perfect" kits get subjected to the AMS modeler's scalpel and putty so wouldn't be a deal breaker for me - and I'm far from a perfect modeler.

Good that the kit will be all new. But the motorization concerns me, as there are the old problems of having a visible switch and battery access plate. Will Tamiya provide a false bottom with removable belly plate held with small rare earth magnets, like their 1/32 aircraft? I would rather have a straight static kit with indie track links. But hey, it's a Tamiya, so hopefully it will be good. I'm going to resist hitting the "pre-order" button until more details emerge about the tracks and motorization system. But... Hooray, finally a new Mk IV!
