Hi modeler#1!

I do not know what is in the kit.

Do you get the rails?

They are pretty difficult to scratch.

And dimensional they would not be the same between a III and IV.

But if you do you could cut the skirts from Evergreen sheet.

Or even a tee style tin can, a kitchen scissor will do.

I am fairly shore I have a reference and can copy you with the dimensions when I am back home.

Thats Friday.

Best Regards

Johan

I know On The Mark made stuff for the 40 year old kit and Sprue Bros. carries some of it, but with the money spent on that PE set, you are better off spending that same amount of money on a better, more up-to-date kit.

Your difficulty in finding PE for the Tamiya StuG IV kit is because the kit is about 40 years old.  May I suggest building it as is -- and let it be a practice piece?

The PE for the StuG III will most likely be of little use to your StuG IV.

Having said that, before there was a decent StuG IV in 1/72 scale, the approved solution was to take the hull of the Revell Panzer IV Ausf J and mate it to a modified Revell StuG III Ausf G upper hull.

It depends on what type of detail kit you're talking about.

The Stug IV was a little bit longer than the Stug III and the early Stug III had different side skirt hangers as well.   The wheels were different, the superstructure, pretty much everything.

The only detail kits I would say that would be interchangeable would be for the tracks, and maybe the tool clamps.

And the IV has the driver encased forward of the superstructure in a projecting addition, rather than in the superstructure itself as on the III. But basicly the StuGIV was a marriage of necesity of the StuGIII superstructure to the Panzer IV hull due to the loss of the Mk.III hull production line due to Allied bombing. I think this is one of the few cases of Allied strategic bombing having a direct impact on the battlefield as envisioned by prewar airpower theorists.

The Stug III is based on the Panzer III chasis, while the Stug IV is based on the Panzer IV chasis, so obviously some differences on hull dimensions.

I want to get a aftermarket set for a Stug IV(tamiya). I have found one but it says it fits the Stug III Ausf G. the set is for side skirts of the tank a common sight on Stugs. the problem is the mounting style is different from the tamiya kit. also what were the differences between the Stug II and IV? will the AM set designed for the III fit on the IV?
