I don't know how an artillery unit was equipped commo wise. I'd imagine an ADA vehicle was probably spread out more than an artillery gun platoon. If it did have a radio, it was probably an A/N VRC-12 series radio, basically a PRC-77 in a vehicle mount that included a speaker.
I got out in '87, maybe S.P. howitzer units were the last to receive radios. Don't mean to try to take over the thread Greek. Bob
That little black box that i have in the crew compartment passenger side.. is that a C-2298/VRC radio? and is that all this vehicle needs for comms?
i bet that what that thing is in the second picture that i circled in red! but that is one weird looking radio though
Do you know what kind of radio where in tracked vehicles like this one?
Don't know when you ETSd, but radios have been standard and deadline-able equipment in tanks, tracked vehicles and APCs my entire career (since 1983).
Rob, did they start packing radios after I ETSed? Bob

Another question... Why all of a sudden are there links instead of pictures?
Might be because of the link you are inserting. I used a right click and the option "copy image url" and used that in the image insertion field.
As far as radios, in armor, cavalry and mechanized infantry units, all tracked vehicles had radios and the only wheeled vehicles that didn't have radios were the deuce and a halves used by the supply sergeant and tool truck.
I was Field Artillery 83-87, only command vehicles and fire direction center had radios. The rest of us just followed along. I don't know about other systems, but maybe they had the same hurdles. Bob

Sorry for being MIA for a little while but between work and holiday and the world cup. Sorry i missed out on the interior color convo but i did read some posts and found most of them helpfully, anyhow i FINALLY completed the troop compartment !!!... i actually did some scratch building in the drivers area and came out pretty good which is definitely a first for me. I have a little touch up and weathering to do but ill do that at the very end (weathering like rust and paint chipping is still very new to me and i have yet to find a method that works for me BUT this will be a discussion at the end). one thing i noticed is that there is NO radio in the troop compartment whatsoever, it wouldnt be in the turret would it? and what kind of radio would it used considering its a mid 80"s project?... Anyways enough talking here are the pictures and of course feed back is welcome :)

My question answered thanks heavy arty.
we're modelers it's what we do

I think Nato is a "true" green compared to O.D.. Olive drab is a brown green so the NATO is better for modern interiors. Use and weather made the green a little more pale over all. Although, our m109's were mostly white. My two cents and sort of memory! Bob
Wow google is great, I know finally know what a m730a1 is, coooool. does Nato green work for most modern interiors or is it like my OD reply? not trying to hijack the thread just asking.
yes, NATO green is close enough.
soooooo... Nato green? that would be close/ correct?
That's close enough.
I think im gonna go with the NATO green as an interior. MM's olive drab doesn't look like this shade i1243.photobucket.com/.../M730A1_14_zpsa3daf223.jpg (m730a1 interor)
It honestly looks like the sama shade as the interior of a humvee which is Nato green

OD= olive drab, which depending on theartre of operation, weather conditions, date of use, manuacturer ( usually the lowest bidder ) and whether or not your color blind can range from a very light green with a yellowish tint, to a dark green with kind of a brown hew to it. Not trying to be smart but it's definitely not NATO green. Great question just tough to pin down a solid answer.
I just want to thank everybody for helping me with this project so far!!! i figured out what goes in the first picture, its a med kit so that little problem is solved haha.. But for the other picture i have no idea what it could be. What color is OD green? is it like NATO green?
I'd have to agree with Rob. However, our m548's didn't have the "box" under the "dash". We put extra tools and such there. Or boxes of mre's or .50 cal ammo. Had to look up m730a1 to see what it was. They sure did some strange stuff based on the m113 didn't they? Bob
To me, that first one likes like where a fire extinguisher would go, while the second might be a first aid kit or a fuse box of some sort
Batteries are under the seats. I'm not sure about these interior items. I do have interior photos of an M548A1 ammo carrier which is very similar to the M730A1. The interior would be plain OD green.
If I was to guess, the first one would hold the M8 chemical agent alarm and the one on the side of the cabin might be the first aid kit.

First pix looks like a battery tray, second I hazard to be a cabin heat vent. I admittedly have no clue what an m730a1 is but thats just my guess.
Whats up everybody... First time on this site and sorta beginner modeler. Anyways i working on a 1/35 m730a1 with eduard photo etch and i have a few questions.... What is the interior color if it is with MERDC camo?
