Looking to purchase the best 1/35th scale kits available to be be the most accurate starting points possible to represent the ersatz M4A3E8 Sherman (actually a twin diesel powered M4A2) and the German  Tiger 131 (both from the Bovington Tank Museum) in the new "Fury" movie.  Money is not an issue; just want the best.  I've heard the Tasca Shermans are the best out there-is that correct?  If so, which Tasca kit?  Which Tiger -Dragon/DML?  Your opinions are much appreciated.

"no, honey, of course that's not another new model. I've had that one for a long time..."

I believe the best kit that will get you closest OOB (if you want to model an M4A3E8 vs. an M4A2E8) would be the Tasca M4A3E8 JGSDF Easy Eight: www.hlj.com/.../Mil

It has the rubber chevron tracks as opposed to the Tasca WW2 US M4A3E8 which has the all steel wartime T-66 tracks.

I don't think the Tasca M4A2 is even usable because it has the early direct vision hull and all the early fittings associated along with the early turret.

Do you want to make a true to the movie M4A2E8? You'd probably need to get the Dragon M4A2 PTO hull and add the Tasca JGSDF kit turret, tracks, suspension, etc. Academy also does a late hull M4A2 that you could bash as well.

Like Rob says, no "great" kit of the M4A2 HVSS 76W exists.  But to kitbash correctly, I'd do the following:

1) Tasca JGSDF for the components Rob says

2a) Academy M4A2 HVSS for hull or

2b) Aftermarket resin late M4A2 hull (Tank Workshop) and source a lower hull tub M4A2 from DML or Academy or Tasca
