TIGER 1 ON THE POLL
Posted by diggeraone on Monday, March 1, 2004 1:39 AM
The Tiger 1 on my poll is starting to lose to the Catalina sea plane, but if you all
manage to get the Tiger on the winning track,I will need help on the paint job. This question is what camo scheme should I use?I was thinking a grey-green base with dark green and red-brown camo scheme or the panzer grey with dark green camo.So tell me what you all think.DiggerSmile [:)]Cowboy [C):-)]Smile [:)]

What theater are you modeling it for? I always like a nice winter camo. Is it an Early, Mid, Late?

If it's an early Production Tiger, I'd go with the German Grey scheme.

If it's a Mid or Late production, Go with the 3 tone scheme (Dark Yellow, Red Brown and Dark Green)

I personally like the German Grey scheme. I'm a little tired of seeing the tri-colour brown, yellow, green scheme. But that's just me

Early version tigers were painted in dark greyish. Tamiya makes an Acyrlic paint that is this color, its called German Grey. I belive Model master also makes this greyish shade called Panzer Grey or something like that. I think that a tiger looks best in a 3-tone scheme though. Tigers and other Panzers with the early applied dark grey rarely (almost never) had any added paint, such as dark green or red-brown. Just full Darkish Grey. Later tigers and Panzers only had a paint coat of darkish yellow from the factory. Individual units and tank crews applied their own paint job of dark green and red-brownish with spray guns or whatever they could find. Only Tiger II's (Royal Tiger) had factory-applied green and redish-brown near the end of the war. But I recomend since it's an early a full shade of consistent darkish-grey.

Panzergrey. Simple one color. German tri-color cammos drive me bonkers.

I'm not choosing the color for you, but will let you see the Tiger I in 3 possible color schemes. The one that you like the most, go for it! :

BTW, the models are from Academy, Tamiya and Italeri respectively.

My vote is German Grey with the winter white water paint camo. I'm a bit sick of tri-colour at the moment too.Blush [:I]

Start with Gray, then overpaint it with another scheme and let the gray weather through or chip off or what ever (down to bare metal or primer in spots??). Heavy weathering from a lot of use and you'll have a gorgeous tank!

My 2 cents [2c]
