How many deuce and halfs have you built?
Posted by Kilroy Was Here on Thursday, July 31, 2014 8:04 PM

I was bored at work, started thinking about building models., Might be interesting to build a historical series of deuce and a halfs (or nearest equivalent) starting with WWI. I think it would make a neat display.

So how many different vintages of standard military transport trucks have you built?

The old Monogram one a few times, and the Heller one once. At least in 1/35. I have a AFV CLub one in the stash also. And I suppose the old Italeri Katyusha truck counts as well, as it is made on the Studebaker Duece and a Half chasis and cab.

I've built the old Monogram M34 deuce a few times, the Tamiya CCKW once, the AFV Club M35A2 once, the Italeri M925 5 ton and the old Peerless Max/Testors/Italeri Dodge WC-63 (6x6 1 1/2 ton).

I also started the Italeri M977 HEMTT cargo truck long ago, but never finished it.

Trumpeter does the current deuce and 5 ton versions of the FMTV in regular and armored cab versions.

I'd recommend grabbing one of the AFV Club deuces, it is a nice build.

Actually, Italeri's represents a post-WWII Zil-151 BM-13.  The actual WWII BM-13 that it is supposed to represent was built on the Studebaker US6 truck.  ICM does a correct model of a WWII BM-13 using their Studebaker US6 chassis and cab and Italeri's Katyusha parts.

Until I just saw Tojo's pic, I had no idea what you guys were talking about. If it hasn't got an Sd.Kfz or Pz.kpfw in front of it, I'm lost./ But I think this is the same thing, Hase 72nd fuel truck. Its the only one I have done so far.

I stand corrected ;-) But I suppose that the Zil-151 was a Soviet Deuce and a Half...

...how many different vintages of standard military transport trucks have you built?...

What matters is how many you want to build.

I did the Monogram kit about 50 years ago (almost exactly 50 years ago, scary) and have a Tamiya kit about 1/3 of the way along somewhere.....

That is a Lorry/Lorrie (sp?) to you folks... deuce and a half refers to the load it is rated to carry in GI slang- 2 1/2 tons of cargo.

When you  say "deuce and a half" I infer you to mean 2.5 ton trucks.  Given that there were MANY types of trucks used by various combatants that were not in the 2.5 ton range (some of which have already been mentioned in this thread), your saying "nearest equivalents" can mean any truck it seems.  Why not a 1.5 ton Chevy?  Why not an 10 ton Mack M123?

You might want to narrow things down before you jump off the starting line.  The term "deuce and a half" is a little more specific than you're usage of the term.

Well a DUKW is a swimming Deuce and Half so I suppose that counts too... Still haven't seen Lorrie though... How about Sheila?
